Diving on San Andres
Barú Island
Barú Island is one of the closest of the many islands just off the coast of Cartagena. Although it’s not as tropical or luxurious as some of the other islands in the area, such as the Rosario Islands, it’s got a lively atmosphere that’s hard to beat. People come here at the weekends to swim in the deep blue waters, relax on the sandy beaches, and escape the city.

The Rosario Islands
The Rosario Islands form an archipelago on the Caribbean coast of Colombia. If beach days, snorkeling adventures and cocktail sunsets. Sound like your ideal beach vacation, then The Rosario Islands will be perfect for you and just a 45-minute boat ride from Cartagena. That’s reason enough for most to visit. Not only are The Rosario Islands a beachside paradise, along with San Bernardo Corals National Natural Park, the Rosario Islands are integral to one of the most important areas of natural beauty in Colombia. As a result, the islands and surrounding waters are remarkably well preserved and protected, meaning you can enjoy their natural delights to the full. The Rosario Islands also offer a number of adventure activities, from kayaking the Caribbean Sea, or a journey through the mangroves, to snorkeling coral reefs or doing some sport fishing. If you prefer a more relaxed vacation, the beaches offer relaxed days, with sunshine, hammocks and cocktails.

San Andrés
The tiny island of San Andrés lies just off the coast of Nicaragua, but is found in Colombian seas, despite mainland Colombia being 805km away. With a fascinating history as a pirate haven, this ex English colony and now a Colombian Island, San Andrés is a cultural melting pot and an island paradise where you can swim through crystal-clear waters and enjoy deliciously, fresh seafood.
Head to the west side of the island, where the beaches turn to cliffs and where the snorkeling is second to none. Once here, you’ll find a little shoreside bar and restaurant called Reggae Roots. The Rasta-themed cabana is the best spot to watch the sunset over the Caribbean. Here, you can jump off the cliff-side diving board and swim in the clear waters before dark.
