Chile’s wine is universally appreciated which is largely due to the country’s climate which allow for grapes to grow ripe and sweet. There are a number of wine-growing regions and vineyards in Chile especially in the valleys such as El Valle Central, Colchagua and Elqui which are the best places for growing grapes. Here are just some of the best wineries in Chile for you to enjoy on your visit.

 

Maipo valley Vineyard

Errazuriz Bodega

Errázuriz has been producing top quality wines in the Valle de Aconcagua Since 1870. Five generations later, this winery has earned the reputation of ‘Best of Chile’. From the grapes, to the final touches, every step is carefully controlled to ensure that their wines are made to perfection. Tours at Errázuriz are available from Tuesday to Sunday and reservations in advance are recommended. A tour of the winery will offer the chance to discover the history of the vineyard, learn about the production of their excellent wines and sample the final products.

Concha y Toro Vineyard

Just an hour outside of Santiago is the the Concha y Toro property. This large area is covered with beautiful scenery, grape fields, a production area, a small restaurant and a wine bodega. At Concha y Toro, visitors can actually try the grapes from the vines to get a better sense of the different types of grapes used. Additionally, Concha y Toro will take you into their famous wine cellar called Casillero del Diablo, which is also the name of the company’s most widely marketed wine. This cellar also has an eerie legend, which you can learn all about on a visit to the vineyard.

VIK Vineyard

VIK Vineyards in nestled in the Millahue Valley and it prides itself on the unique and stylish infrastructure, tasting opportunities and a world-class restaurant. There is even a horse riding trip through the fields to taste wines paired with food prepared by Rodrigo Acuña Bravo, a well-known Chilean chef who incorporates unique flavours and local ingredients in his recipes.

Viu Manent vineyard 

The Viu Manent vineyard is family owned and was founded in the 1935 in Valle de Colchagua. Offering three different types of wine, and between two and four wines per category, Viu Manent has truly excelled in creating an incredible range of wines using tradition methods alongside modern technology. Cousiño Macul 

Cousiño Macul is the only 19th century winery in Chile that remains in the hands of its founding family. After six generations and over 160 years, Cousiño Macul’s mission rings clear: to produce world-class wines that are unmistakably Chilean and that have the distinctive character of the Maipo Valley. The Maipo Valley is recognized as the origin of the best Cabernet Sauvignon in Chile. The estates, Macul and Buin, enjoy the unique conditions that this valley possesses, influenced by the Andes Mountains that causes lower temperatures during the ripening period of the grapes, and cool breezes that descend from the slopes that prevent an excess of concentration of sugars in their bunches.

Cavas del Valle

The couple who founded Cavas del Valle, constantly strive to improve on their already delicious flavours. The importance of tourism in Chile is clear to the founders, who believe that vineyards are on of the main attractions for visitors to the country. Cavas del Valle is based in Valle del Elqui, a valley where pisco is typically produced, yet they produce unique wines, 100% natural and organic, which are stored in a beautiful mid-19th century house.

Casa Silva

Casa Silva is a family winery which aims for perfection. They require that at least five members of the tasting panel sample and approve their wine before it is bottled and distributed. This process has constantly produced top quality wines, which have won many awards over the years, such as the ‘Vineyard of the Year’ from the Wines of Chile Association in 2013. Casa Silva has the oldest wine cellar in the Valle de Colchagua, but behind this historical image, the winery works with some of the most modern technology to produce its bestselling wines.

Viña von Siebenthal

A love of wine is at the heart of the Viña von Siebenthal. They believe that there is a harmony between their vineyards, cellar and house and it is this which results in their outstanding wines. With four main vineyards in the Valle de Aconcagua, Viña von Siebenthal is located in the perfect grape-growing environment which ensures an excellent harvest each year for a consistent flavour.

Viña Falernia

The award winning Viña Falernia is a spectacular vineyard, where you can taste some of the country’s best wines. Established in 1995, the Falernia vineyard was originally an experiment to transform the dry desert of El Valle del Elqui into a flourishing vineyard, but soon became a premium wine producer, despite being the northernmost vineyard in the country. Valle del Elqui is in a valley and has its own micro-climate, allowing the wine makers of Viña Falernia to produce unique flavours and aromas, distinctive from other wines in the rest of the country.

Viña Maipo

The winemakers of Viña Maipo have dedicated themselves for many years to the production of excellent wines. This prestigious vineyard was founded in 1948 and their Syrah is their most famous wine, made from grapes from a vine that is over 20 years old. Viña Maipo has a large international market and offers wines for all budgets, and the success of their vineyard continue to grow alongside their delicious grapes.
