Colombia is one of the hottest destinations to travel to post-pandemic. There is a glorious Caribbean coast to visit, incredible flora and fauna to explore, and the best coffee in the world to drink! Colombia is also reasonably priced worldwide, but how far should you book in advance? Here are some pointers.

Advantages of booking early

You can book your Colombia tour at any time. For most departures, 2-3 months' notice is acceptable, though specific tours around the holidays may fill up 5-6 months in advance. The months of December & January are busy in Colombia because the Colombians are on holiday. The months of July & August are busy because many foreign tourists travel to Colombia. Would you like to travel in the dry season but not in mass tourism? Then choose the months of February, March, or September. We usually recommend that you wait to book your international flight to Colombia until after your tour is confirmed. The sooner we arrange your tour, the sooner you can take advantage of flight deals as they become available. We can often accommodate last-minute travelers up to a month before your departure dates! (some even departing in less than one month!!), so give us a call, and we will do our best!
For last-minute reservations, it helps to be flexible and organized. Your first choice tour may not be available for your selected dates, but your travel designer can recommend some other similar options that would be equally interesting in Colombia! Many hotels will not hold spaces less than 30 days before departure, so for last-minute bookings, you may be asked to send your booking form and trip payment immediately to secure your slots.

Benefit from flight deals

Save money on airfares by booking your tickets several months before your trip. In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, many airlines that fly to Colombia have reduced their prices to entice customers back to the skies. According to the LA Times, in September 2021, airfares from the USA to various European destinations were estimated to be 30% lower than during the same month in 2019. As with all good things, these amazing deals will eventually end. More and more countries are beginning to open up to the world, which means there'll be lots of people ready to take advantage of the cheap flight deals to Colombia. Added demand will likely lead to airfares shooting up again in the not-so-distant future. You can avoid paying a premium for your seats by booking your trip as soon as you've settled on your Colombia vacation. Lower prices for many routes remain in place for the time being, but you can expect fares to increase as international travel becomes popular.

Take advantage of low hotel prices.

It isn't just the airline industry that was affected by the pandemic. The entire travel and hospitality sector took a huge hit – including the world's many beautiful hotels and resorts in Colombia. With travel back on the cards, room reservations have started to increase. This is especially true in popular destinations such as Paris or glitzy Dubai, where the average hotel prices are currently 17% and 18% higher than in May 2021. Many hotels expect to be booked up during next year's peak season! Nevertheless, some fantastic hotel deals worldwide exist, including in Colombia. Planning and booking well ahead of time will ensure you don't miss out on accommodations that fit your style and budget.

When to Book

With all the above in mind, we recommend booking your flights and hotels at least six months before you travel to Colombia. Any preliminary planning, such as settling on a specific destination, should be done well before this. This is especially true if you want to stay somewhere a little more exclusive, such as one of the many five-star hotels in Colombia. If you're going to get away during the holiday season? Start planning at least 12 months before, if possible. This will allow you to benefit from cheaper airfares, better hotel availability, and a higher likelihood of securing spots on specific tours and experiences. You might also want to plan your vacation to Colombia to coincide with a local festival. If this is the case, pre-book tickets and consider the best places to stay nearest the event site.
