A HEADS-UP!

The world is not the same as it was before the Covid pandemic. Each country has its own special requirements to enter, during and when you leave the country.... and Peru is no exception! Here is some helpful, down-to-earth information to help you if you are planning on visiting Peru sooner, rather than later!

You do not REQUIRE any vaccinations to enter the country; However it is highly recommended to have the Covid 19 vaccination before travel. Please note that you will require a negative PCR test to enter Peru (with a 72 hour validity) or proof of full Covid vaccination, either virtual or pysical.

Temperature control in Peru

Temperature control in Peru still happens in some parts of the country!

It is highly recommended to have a yellow fever vaccination, particularly when travellers plan to visit the jungle regions of Peru or cross into Bolivia after your Peru visit. If you don't have the time to visit the travel clinic at home, you can have the yellow fever vaccination administered at a pharmacy on arrival. If you have any doubts or concerns about visas or vaccinations, please do not hesitate to speak to one of the Va Expeditions specialists  on info@vaexpeditions.com who are available 24/7 to put your mind at rest.

Within Peru, it is required to wear a mask in all public places. Some shopping Malls /banks/ hospitals also require the use of a mask with a face visor both of which are readily available to purchase in most stores or street stands.

Our philosophy is to remain as flexible as possible during the Post Covid era, offer assurance and peace of mind to our clients, whilst complying with the strictest covid-19 safety protocols and procedures.  Please remember that permits and entrances to the sites are currently with reduced capacity so it is important to plan your travel ahead of time!

Entering Peru

To enter Peru, you must have at least six months' passport validity, from the date you enter the country and a one-page minimum, free for your entrance stamp and your subsequent departure stamp, once you leave the country. You may also be asked to show proof of a return air ticket or onward travel ticket to your next destination. Please ask one of our Valencia Travel specialists for more information if you are unsure about any of the entrance requirements. /span>

A regular tourist visa will last for between 30 and 183 days, depending on the border control person who issues your visa. This may be extended at the immigration office, with a maximum stay in any 1-year period being 183 days (half a year), starting from your original entrance date. If you overstay your visa, you will be required to pay a fine of $1.50 USD per day for every day that you stay over your visa. This must be paid in cash on exit. It is a good idea to have the correct money as you leave, or you could find yourself having last minute issues!

There is a cash limit of $30,000 USD for entrance into Peru and also to exit the country. Any amount higher than $10,000 USD MUST be declared. If your entrance is refused for whatever reason, your airline company is obliged to return you to your point of origin.

Exiting Peru

On your departure from Peru, if there is no evidence of an entrance stamp, you will not be allowed to exit the country until the immigration authorities officially confirm the time and place of your entry. This is a long, expensive process and best avoided if at all possible! Make sure that you have a correct entry record in your passport, especially if you are entering Peru via a land border, where border officials tend to be less experienced with such matters.

Passports

If you are unfortunate enough to have had your passport stolen during your stay or if you have lost it along your travels, it MUST be reported to the police immediately. You will need a copy of the police report to apply for a new passport at your local consulate or an emergency travel document before you are allowed to leave the country.

To enter Peru, you must have evidence to show that you will be leaving Peru also! This is usually in the form of an air ticket or long-distance bus service to a neighbouring country. If you are unsure, please ask one of the Va Expeditions specialists.

Travelling with Minors

Regardless of nationality, all children who are travelling with both birth parents are required to have a valid passport and the necessary visa or citizenship of the country where they are travelling. Peruvian immigration procedures are complicated for minors travelling without one or both parents or legal guardians.

We believe that this is everything that you need to know about entering Peru on a tourist visa. It is always a good idea to have your countries embassy contact details on you when you enter the country and carry on you the emergency telephone number of your embassy or consulate in Peru. You can find this information on their official website before you leave home!

Happy, Safe Travels!
