THE LOCATIONS OF PERU IN THE NEW TRANSFORMERS MOVIE- RISE OF THE BEASTS

Peru offers an amazing geography and a vast culture that make the country a destination with countless locations and diverse settings where all kinds of stories can be told. Peru is history, nature, culture, and adventure. The country is a melting pot of ethnicities and living cultures with cultural manifestations of vibrant colors and rich folklore that fuses music, dances, and traditional celebrations that have transcended time. The latest movie in the Transformers Franchise is Rise of the Beast, filmed on location in Peru. Steven Caple, who will showcase the magnificent wonder of the world Machu Picchu, the imperial city of Cusco, Sacsayhuaman, the Ahuashiyacu Waterfall, and San Martin jungle in North Peru and other regions that we will see during the film. San Martin

Located in the northern high jungle of Peru, this region is ideal for nature lovers, hikers, and bird watchers in search of new landscapes. Imagine waterfalls and cascades falling on natural stones and forming pools in the middle of an intense green landscape. San Martin, the necessary permits were granted to occupy different areas near rivers and streams, as well as in the majestic Cordillera Escalera and other places considered tourist attractions. During the filming of The Transformers movie, emblematic places such as Alto Shilcayo, Chazuta, and Shapaja districts, the impressive La Unión waterfalls in La Banda de Shilcayo, as well as a stretch of the road to Yurimaguas and the amazing Ahuashiyacu waterfalls were closed to the public, during the filming. Undoubtedly, the magical and exotic Peruvian jungle provided the perfect setting to bring the fascinating story of “Transformers” to life.

Cusco

This is the most visited region of Peru. This ancient Inca city of Cusco was built in the shape of a puma, with the head located in Saqsaywaman, a military complex built with stones as large as 5 meters that weigh around 120 tons. Nowadays, the city center's architecture is predominantly Colonial Spanish built on top of the stony old city and the result is uniquely beautiful. The Plaza de Armas of Cusco was one of the locations for the filming of Transformers 7, where the Inti Raymi festival also takes place, along with The Koricancha and Saqsaywaman. This festival takes place on the 24th of June each year and is the reenactment of the Sun Festival accompanied by traditional dances, elaborate costumes, and native music. Some scenes were filmed at the Saqsayhuaman Archaeological site, the head of the Puma, and the site that overlooks Cusco City. Abra Málaga is found along the route to Quillabamba and was also chosen as one of the settings for the film Transformers. The Malaga mountain pass, with its imposing and rugged mountain scenery, was used in the movie to showcase an adrenaline-filled chase scene. The Transformers engaged in a frantic race through these difficult and steep mountain roads. Cusco's streets, also feature heavily in the movie and the filming took place in the ancient Inca streets such as Meloq, Arco Santa Ana, San Francisco Square, and San Blas, streets that still preserve the colonial Inca constructions.

Sacred Valley

 

In the Sacred Valley of The Incas,  one of the largest salt extraction centers of pre-Hispanic origin, Maras, is nested in steep valley slopes, a white strip of 5,000 salt ponds staggered down in terraces. The beautiful and legendary Sacred Valley of the Incas is full of spectacular Andean scenery and archaeological ruins and served as a backdrop for scenes of The Transformers movie. They filmed in the open plains near Maras and the archaeological complex of Moray, an ancient Inca experimental agricultural site, in the Sacred Valley.

Machu Picchu

 

Machu Picchu is one of the most amazing New 7 Wonders of the World. Machu Picchu may be the best example that mankind can build a gigantic stone complex in the middle of a heavenly landscape while respecting the natural harmony and the result is a really spiritual experience. The head of the Machu Picchu National Archaeological Site, José Bastante Abuhadba, assured that the authorities will be strict with the recording equipment that can enter the mythical Inca city in order to avoid damage to the heritage site. “Let it be clear that none of the robots will enter Machu Picchu, not even a robot’s hand”, he assured Andina media, after detailing that in the citadel “only the two main actors will be filmed while the rest will be a virtual recreation of the robots”. During the filming, several sites of the Inca citadel were used, such as the terraces, and some temples among others. The filming at Machu Picchu took place from September 7th to 10th 2021. The production company requested authorization to allow part of the team to stay by helicopter during that period. The breathtaking landscapes of Cusco and the historical marvel of Machu Picchu provided a captivating backdrop for the epic battles between the heroic Autobots and the treacherous Decepticons. The ancient ruins and mystical aura of the Inca civilization added an extra layer of intrigue and wonder to the already fantastical world of the Transformers.

Mixing Ancient Traditions with Robots!

Before the filming began, the production team of Transformers had the opportunity to take part in a significant spiritual ceremony. Accompanied by a shaman from  The qeros community,  they performed a sacred ritual in the Sanctuary of Machu Picchu to express gratitude to Pachamama (Mother Earth) and seek blessings for the film’s success. This act of respect and spiritual connection with the sacred environment of Machu Picchu is undoubtedly an extraordinary component of the movie experience.
