The Panamenian cloud forests and rainforests

The Panamenian cloud forests and rainforests

Overview of The Panamenian cloud forests and rainforests

The rainforests and cloud forests are basically defined by the elevation they are found at and are home to some of the most exotic flora and fauna, covering almost a quarter of the whole country. The biodiversity, plant and animal species are incredible for such a small country with 220 species as its inhabitants, especially birdlife with 978 species! The rainforests are generally lesser developed that in Costa Rica for example but none the less, spectacular and there are a lot fewer visitors meaning that you often get to see the wildlife.

What to Do in The Panamenian cloud forests and rainforests

Gulf of Chiriqui
Gulf of Chiriqui

The Gulf of Chiriqui includes Boca Chica, which is also known to be an excellent destination for sports-fishing, serves as the gateway to reach the dozens of islands in this gulf. Long a little fishing village, Boca Chica moves to a slow tempo, housing tourists and big game fishermen in a few quaint, family-owned inns. Chiquirí Gulf is one of Panama's best-kept secrets and a fundamental part of the National Marine Park.

National park of the Barú volcano
National park of the Barú volcano

Panama only has one volcano, it's also the highest point in the country, so definitely worth a visit. A great spot to go Quetzal spotting, tapirs and many other species live here and it is the place to see both the Atlantic and Pacific oceans! The Baru volcano park is a scenic complex of high ecological and geological value that protects a biological diversity with unique species in this area.  This is a fresh, natural, lush escape from the beaches, with green as far as the eye can see,  if it's needed!

Boquete
Boquete

BOQUETE is set in the tranquil Caldera Valley, 1000m above sea level, just 37km north of David. It is the biggest town in the Chiriquí Highlands, and sits in the middle of Panama’s two coasts. The road to Boquete ends in the highlands, and the slopes surrounding the town are dotted with coffee plantations, flower gardens and orange groves, which rise to rugged peaks that are usually obscured by thick clouds.
