The Cocuy National Park is located 12 hours away from Bogota. The park consists of two parallel chains of mountains of 22 snow peaks extending over 306,000 hectares. Icy summits, glaciers, lakes, waterfalls and cliff faces form the spectacular scenery of the area. Traditional communities of mountain people are the inhabitants of this region wild beauty and amazingly remote territories. This high-altitude haven is ideal for trekkers and climbers visiting Colombia and will allow you to get away from it all and totally off the beaten track.

Accommodation: This trip includes authentic rustic and comfortable accommodation. This is a remote destination with no luxury options; however, your every need will be catered for in this humble hotel.
We will take the night bus from Bogota in private transportation to El Cocuy, which will take approximately 10-12 hours.
We will arrive bright and early in Cocuy, found at 2,800 metres elevation, having gradually acclimatized on the overnight bus. We will settle into the hotel and enjoy breakfast before heading out for a short trek to the Mirador del Cocuy, climbing 100 metres to the Cerro Muhammad. After lunch back down in the village, you will have a free afternoon to explore Cucuy.
After an early breakfast, we will leave El Cocuy in a private vehicle to the entrance of the National Park. We will begin the trek to the cabanas of the National Park in the Valle del Lagunillas. Today we will hike for approximately 7 hours, to the edge of the Pulpito del Diablo Glacier, a massive, square stone, and the Pan de Azucar, peak reaching 5,000 metres elevation. We will then return to return to El Cocuy for dinner and to have a good night’s rest.
Today, we will head back to the National Park for the trek to the Laguna Grande de La Sierra. We will head to the foot of the snow-covered Concave peak, at 5000 metres elevation, to begin the hike. The remarkable landscape of the Sierra Nevada del Cocuy will surround us and the majestic lake is the icing on the cake for this trip to the Sierra Nevada del Cocoy. These rugged peaks and stone balconies also offer a spectacular sunrise, showing an array of colours and reflections. We will then return to El Cocuy for the evening.
After breakfast, we will head to the National Park once more to trek around the Ritacubas sector. We will climb to the edge of the stunning Ritacuba Blanco glacier peak for some impressive and spectacular scenery. In the afternoon Return to El Cocuy once more.
Today is our final day and we will say goodbye to the Cocuy National Park. We will head back to Bogota in our private car, marking the end of this magnificent off-the-beaten-track experience.
