After breakfast, we leave Cabo de La Vela towards Alta Guajira, direct to Nazareth. Along the way, we will pass through San Martin, Puerto Nuevo, Bahía Portete, before stopping in Pusheo for lunch. After lunch, we will visit the Guajiro desert before continuing towards Nazareth and the Makuira National Park. We will take a four-hour walk to the dune. Today, we will head to Punta Gallinas, the northernmost point of South America. From Cabo de La Vela onwards, conventional roads no longer exist as we truly escape the beaten path. Instead, we will head along rough and ready dirt roads that only the local inhabitants use. After breakfast, we will head to the salt marshes of Manaure. These massive salt pools are diversely coloured, varying from white to deep purple. The strong sun and wind generate evaporation that leaves long white stretches, which offer a stunning backdrop. We will spend the afternoon in the Wualapuinje Rancheria with the Wayuu indigenous community, before heading to the Mayapo beaches, where we will enjoy a spectacular sunset at Mayapo beach.
