After breakfast, we will head out on a tour of the capital, San Jose. We will visit the National Theatre, also known as “The jewel of San José”, a masterpiece in art and architecture.

Then we will visit the Museum of Gold, the Central Market, full of the Costa Rican cultural heritage and traditions, where you will be able to browse and buy some local art crafts. In the afternoon we will enjoy a Chocolate Tasting Tour of Sibú; a presentation about chocolate and its role in the pre-Columbian Costa Rica. The owners and Master Chocolatiers welcome guests on this journey of the senses. Starting with a sample of the fresh cocoa berry and roasted cocoa beans. We will then sample a recipe for indigenous hot chocolate from the 1500s before savouring squares of dark chocolate and classic European-style chocolates made on the premises. The tour will deepen your passion for chocolate and will change the way you experience this true delicacy.

The Golfo Dulce, or Sweet Gulf, is found between the Osa Peninsula and Costa Rica's South Pacific coastline.  

The large bay boasts pristine beaches, rivers and tall rainforests, which are protected as the Golfo Dulce Forest Reserve.  

As one of the wettest places on Earth with over 200 inches of rainfall a year, the Golfo Dulce Forest Reserve boasts some of the tallest ancient trees that tower above us into the air. This region is renowned for its biodiversity and is ideal for nature lovers and adventurers.

Camino de Osa is a innovative rural community travel experience. We will begin with our visit heading to a small ranch, where Don Juan has exhibited some tools and relics of years gone by. We will then head out on a stroll to the river, that is rich in gold. We will have the opportunity to learn from Don Juan how to practice the traditional gold collection methods in a canoe. We will then visit a traditional sugar mill where the normal production process of sugar cane candy is carried out through the use of oxen or horses. We will start by cutting sugar cane, working in the sugar mill, drinking cane juice, and helping to make delicious desserts. We will then head off to learn more about chocolate production and processing. We will visit the traditional cocoa plantation, in an untouched and mystical area, where you can have first impressions of the “cacao forest”, the flowers and fruit. Historically and culturally fascinating, dating back to the times of the Mayans, we will learn about the origin of the cacao tree, the history, the first contact with Europeans, and the principal disease called “Monilia”. On the way to the organic cacao plantation, you will pass the secondary forest with its pioneer plants and its typical flora and fauna. We will the learn about its processing, starting with the fermentation, then drying and later the transformation of a roasted cacao-bean into pure chocolate. Finally, we will taste a fabulous chocolate fondue with fresh fruit and homemade banana bread from the farm in the middle of a tropical garden.

Today is a free day to explore the area, the biodiversity, the water activities or simply relaxing on the pristine beach.

Today we will head out on a dolphin and whale spotting trip. Golfo Dulce is one of four tropical fiords in the world, and the home to a variety of marine life, large mangrove areas and many rivers flowing into the gulf from the surrounding rainforest. The ocean is mineral-rich, providing a healthy food source for dolphins and humpback whales amongst many other sea creatures. Combine this tour with other activities such as snorkelling for a great day at the beach! 

Today we leave the Golfo Dulce for the Arenal national park and Upala the home of the Rio Celeste. Resembling a movie scene, Rio Celeste is the meeting of two rivers that magically change colour into turquoise and blue as they join together. The surrounding nature and raw beauty of the area is perfect for visitors. The phenomenon is the result of chemical reactions produced by the minerals produced by the Tenorio volcano, which gives the name to the national park and has four volcanic peaks and two craters. Hot springs and waterfalls, abundant flora and fauna add to the magnificence of the landscape.

Today we will head out into the Park for a visit to the volcano and Rio Celeste. Along the river, we’ll find hot springs as the river curves around tranquil bays, with a waterfall of unique beauty, all surrounded by native flora and fauna. We arrive at the Tenorio Volcano National Park, where we will hike through the tropical rain forest. Our first visit in this impressive park full of rich ecological wonders will be the spectacular Rio Celeste waterfall.

After breakfast, we will leave Upala and head to Papagayo. The Papagayo area is formed by spectacular beaches along this part of the northern Pacific Coast in Guanacaste. Formerly part of Nicaragua, before being annexed to Costa Rica in 1824, Guanacaste has a long history as cattle-raising area. Its Sabanero, cowboy culture, still defines the province's personality with traditions, foods and music. While many of Guanacaste’s beaches are coveted by surfers, those on the Gulf of Papagayo are protected, making them great for families with children or honeymooners looking for tranquillity. All of Costa Rica’s beaches are public, but because the Peninsula is gated the beaches here are more secluded. The area is filled with the vibrant bays and inlets, as well as plenty of peace and quiet for those looking to get away from it all in a tropical paradise.

Take a kayaking trip to visit the property’s beaches starting from Laguna Beach to Portuguese Beach. Enjoy the view of the National Park Santa Rosa or the Tenorio Volcano as you sail through the coastal rocks.

Portuguese Beach or to Punta Gorda, one of the best diving and snorkelling spots in the area hit the water with our paddleboards and cruise alongside a variety of sea life. Don’t forget the sunscreen and hat! Snorkelling at Punta Gorda is one of the best snorkelling and dive areas around, and it is right in front of the Beach Cabana. Come into the Adventure Room and gear up with goggles and fins and brace yourself for the unique underwater paradise. Green sea turtles, Spotted Eagle ray, and a wide array of fish, you will not want to go back inland

Whether you’re visiting Laguna Beach in front of the Beach Cabana or our almost virgin Portuguese Beach, you can definitely spend the whole day soaking up sun rays and cooling off in the clear ocean water.
