The Corocora camp is a luxury tented campsite located in the wetland savannahs of Los Llanos, in the Eastern plains, and is the region with the highest concentration of wildlife in all of Colombia. This remote nature reserve is a fascinating place to get off the beaten track and get back to nature and traditional culture. Today you will arrive at the Yopal airport, where an English-speaking guide and our driver will be waiting to take you to Corocora camp. After approximately a 3 hour journey, you will arrive at the camp. You can take a nature walk inside the reserve to look for local wildlife, including deer, capybaras, anacondas, jaguars, pumas, ocelots, howler monkeys and giant anteaters, or enjoy one of the camp’s included experiences, such as bird watching, canoeing or fishing.
Today, you may enjoy a half-day horse riding trip with a local “Llanero" cowboy!. You will be able to experience the true essence of local culture and explore the reserve's most inaccessible areas. Or you can choose a half-day expedition in a 4x4 or even a tractor, to explore these remote areas of the reserve. Driving and walking are combined to view more wildlife species and explore inaccessible areas such as The Gallery Forest.
Today we will spend the early morning with Llanero cowboys experiencing their cultural traditions, such as barefoot horse riding, herding, corralling cattle, using a lasso, and singing to call in the livestock!. We will learn all about why the Llanero chants were declared as Cultural Heritage by UNESCO. We will then end the day with a traditional “parrando”, consisting of a bonfire dinner and live music with harps, guitars, and maracas. We can even learn some traditional Llanero songs, which tell of stories of adventure, love, nature and traditions.
After breakfast, we will learn all about the conservation initiatives at the camp, such as visiting the camera traps to do maintenance and acquire recent footage, and learning about the tracking systems used to monitor the animals. We will then head back to Yopal, for your onward flight to your next exciting destination!
