Salvador

 

Salvador was the first colonial capital of Brazil, a port city strategically located on a peninsula of the northeast coast. The Portuguese would later 'import' tens of thousands of enslaved people from Africa to Salvador to build their New World, which today has contributed to the city's vibrant Afro-Brazilian culture. The African rhythm beats throughout the city, giving Salvador its title as the "capital of happiness" due to its frequent fun-loving outdoor parties and the world's largest Carnival. There is no other place in the western hemisphere where the culture of those brought as enslaved people from Africa has been preserved as well as in Salvador,  from music and religion to food, dance, and martial-arts traditions.

Arraial d´ Ajuda

 

Originally founded by Jesuits in 1549, today, Arraial d'Ajuda is a laid-back town attracting Brazilian hippies and foreign adventurers. Arraial d'Ajuda has an eclectic atmosphere and the nickname "Corner of the World." During high season, the small town is overrun with vacationers and a young Brazilian crowd drawn to the regular roster of beach parties concentrated around Praia Parracho. Trancoso

 

Trancoso is an unspoiled patch of paradise and the favorite of chic beachgoers. A relatively small bay surrounded by a dense, impassable tropical forest,  sleepy Trancoso is isolated, making it the ideal spot to kick back and relax.
