Ecuador is a compact country home to the cloud forest jungle on the mainland and a sublime variety of unique flora and fauna throughout its territory. There are exceptional places to discover for nature and wildlife lovers, including the cloud forest near Quito. Here, you can spot beautiful hummingbirds, hike, and swim by waterfalls in crystalline natural pools. There is also the world-famous Amazon, where wildlife is it's most diverse, giving you the chance to spot anything from jaguars to tapirs to bright-billed toucans. Ecuador’s cities are just as abundant with culture and history as its jungles are with wildlife. Arguably the country’s most awe-inspiring features come in the form of its spectacular volcanoes, such as Chimborazo where, due to its location upon the equatorial bulge, its summit is the farthest place on the earth’s crust from the earth’s core. If you visualize yourself on an adventurous and comfortable experience throughout Ecuador then read on for more information about the sights visited on our High-End highlights of Ecuador tour.

The main spots to visit are The Basilica del Voto Nacional was constructed with stone, and boasts a Neo-Gothic style. it also offers some of the best views over Quito. This small village is built on the site where the Equator is thought to run through in the outer region of Quito. Also, visit the Mitad del Mundo monument. The construction of this place started in 1736 after the French geodesic expedition team mapped out the area. However, it was eventually discovered that their calculations were inaccurate and that the Equator was placed far away from the calculated location. Today, you will witness a monument standing over 98 feet high in the center of Mitad del Mundo Square, representing the false Equator yet having a stunning sight for locals and visitors alike.

Baños

Baños is considered the adventure capital of Ecuador. It is a quiet village located outside of the bustling capital of Ecuador. The Devil’s Cauldron waterfall is located here, a picturesque and spectacular fall that measures over 80 meters tall with 1410 meters feet above sea level. The town is known for two things: naturally heated thermal baths – the namesake of Baños, Ecuador – and adventure sports! Nearby Baños, you’ll find mountains, rivers, waterfalls, and hot springs. The Swing At The End Of The World is one of the most iconic attractions to visit in Baños, Ecuador. Located on a mountain next to an active volcano, this beautiful swing is a MUST for anyone traveling to Baños. While originally this swing was just a couple of ropes connected with a wooden seat hanging from a tree, over the years many safety additions have been added to make this swing super safe.

Chimborazo

Chimborazo is the highest mountain in Ecuador. A mighty colossus, called ”Taita Chimborazo” by the indigenous people, Father Chimborazo. As the Chimborazo is located very near the Equator, its summit is actually the highest point from the middle of the Earth (and closest to the stars) due to the fact that the Earth isn’t round, but expanding at the Equator. It’s also the main reason why people for centuries thought it was the highest mountain in the world.  Like the earlier mentioned Von Humboldt, who climbed the mountain partially during his visit to Ecuador. Chimborazo is famous also for the technical difficulty involved to climb it, however, you can hike to the base camp at 5000m for an easier trek and otherworldly views.

Ingapirca

The impressive Ingapirca archaeological site was once home to the Inca Empire and its ancient inhabitants. Visiting Ingapirca Ruins is a must for any traveler looking to experience Ecuadorian culture and history. Ingapirca is the most significant pre-Columbian ruin in Ecuador. It is located 50 miles (80 km) north of Cuenca. Ingapirca is a Kichwa term meaning Inca wall. The Inca Sun Temple, which is the most prominent building on the site, is the only elliptical Incan temple you can find in South America. The ruins were said to be a mix of Incan and Cañari structures. Initially, the Incas attempted to conquer the Cañaris but were defeated. Instead, the Incas chose to coexist with them in peace. The Cañari civilization was the first to build on the land. The two architectural styles differ in how the structures were formed. While the Cañari used mortar to hold the rocks together, the Incas cut the blocks to size, so they flawlessly fit together without needing a bonding aid. It is the largest and most well-preserved Inca site in Ecuador, and it has been designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Cuenca

Cuenca is one of the most beautiful cities in Ecuador. Cuenca is a major cultural center, thanks to its rich history always present through its museums and architecture. The city of Cuenca has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1999 thanks to its magnificent colonial center dating back to the 16th century. It’s a very pleasant neighborhood to stroll around. It allows us not only to observe very fine examples of colonial architecture but also to rest in one of the charming shaded squares and to visit the many churches, precious testimonies of the rich history of Cuenca. About 36 kilometers from Cuenca, the small village of Gualaceo is known for its crafts. If your travel dates allow, go on a Sunday: you can visit the local market where everything is sold, from fruit and vegetables to kitchen utensils, herbal teas, and handicrafts. It was in Gualaceo that the famous Ikat was born, a technique of weaving cotton by hand.
