Are you up for the challenge? Ecuador is blessed with unique climates and some of the most biodiverse geography in the world. On this tour we can head down the Avenue of Volcanos while hiking and biking on the slopes of the Andes. We can explore the impressive waterfall canyons and raft along the Jatunyacu River whose waters flow into the Amazon. Trek the rim of the Cuicocha Crater Lake and spend an evening relaxing in the volcanic hot springs of Papallacta. If you want an adventure where you can encounter truly unique experiences such as spending time with an Amazonian indigenous family or if you are blessed with an adventurous spirit, this tour is the perfect adventure vacation in Ecuador!

Day by day schedule
Day 01 -Arrival to Quito
Today is arrival day to Quito, the capital of Ecuador. This well preserved colonial city was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1978. The city is located on the equator in a valley at the foothills of the Pichincha volcano. You can spend your day exploring the old town of Quito and the surrounding area if you arrive early. In the evening, the guide will meet you at the hotel’s lobby for a welcome briefing at 6 pm. We will discuss the details and questions you may have about the tour. This first day is a good acclimatization day.
Day 02 -Cotopaxi
Today, we will head south from Quito, along the spectacular Avenue of Volcanoes, through the brightly coloured Andean fields. On arrival at the Cotopaxi National Park, we will head out on a hike around the Limpiopungo lagoon, with the stunning backdrop of the Rumiñahui volcano. We will also have spectacular views of Cotopaxi, the highest active volcano in the world. In the afternoon we continue on to the Llanganates National Park, also known as the sacred mountain, to the town of Baños, Baños is the gateway to the Ecuatorian Amazon basin. This is also where we can enjoy the best nightlife and cocktails accompanied by some salsa dancing!
Day 03 -Baños
After breakfast, we will head across country by mountain bike from the Llanganates National Park to the Pastaza River Canyon, enjoying the stunning and unique cloud forest climate. We will pass through some Andean farmlands and a spectacular canyon containing a number of waterfalls. As we descend into the jungle, we can appreciate a picturesque view of Baños, and the active Tungurahua volcano. This spectacular volcano is the main attraction of area as it continues to spew ashes and light up the nighttime sky. In the afternoon we will have some time to go to The Swing at the End of the World, where the winner of the 2014 National Geographic photo contest took his impressive photo.
Day 04 -Amazon Homestay
Today, we will head out on the road of the waterfalls. The first stop will be at the Bride´s Veil waterfall, where we will take the Tarabita cable car to cross the Pastaza River. We will then hike down to the Pailon del Diablo waterfall, the second-highest waterfall in Ecuador. Next we will head deeper into the jungle inside the Llanganates National Park. The name “Llanganates” comes from “beautiful mountain” in the local native language. This is where the Incas hid their gold and treasures, where many explorers have spent years looking for them! During a hike through the dense tropical rain forest, we will climb through several waterfall canyons. Our local guide will tell us all about the incredible flora and fauna which thrive in this unique ecological region. We will spend the evening with a local indigenous family for an interactive cultural experience.
Day 05 -Papallacta
After a hearty breakfast, we will paddle the wild waves of the Jatunyacu River. This stunning river will reveal the magic of the Amazon rain forest, leaving you awe-inspired. We will head out on our class III rafting expedition down the Jatunyacu River, renowned for its clear waters and rapids. We can explore one of the canyons with some fun and games along the way. At the end of the trip, we will enjoy a picnic in the rainforest, before we finish the adventure with a drive back up to the mountains, stopping at the hummingbird sanctuary of the Guango Reserve along the way. We will then head to Papallacta, for the evening where we can relax and recharge in the volcanic hot springs set amid the Andes
Day 06– Otavalo
Today we will head out in the Andes to the ecological reserve of Cayambe Coca. This remote reserve is barely touched by humans and is found in stunningly pristine surroundings. As we descend from 4000 metres to 2743 metres, we can enjoy the spectacular views over Andean plains appreciate colourful flowers and grassland, with occasional deer and rabbits. This park is home of the great Spectacled Bear the only bear species in South America. The local Andean people depend on agriculture, farming products such as potatoes, corn, broad beans and lupine. We will arrive at the next Hacienda in the early afternoon. We will then visit the Equator monument to appreciate the experience of being at 0 Latitude. On the way to Otavalo, we can appreciate the stunning Imbabura Volcano and experience the great views of the San Pablo Lake and the small indigenous villages along the way. We will then explore the Otavalo Indigenous Market. Here you will find the best souvenirs for the best prices, and most importantly most of the products are made by local indigenous families. Authentic items include ponchos, tapestries, blankets and jewellery.
Day 07 -Cuicocha Crater Lake
Today we will hike along the Cuicocha Crater Lake's shores, admitting the stunning scenery and flora and fauna. We will then take a boat ride to the middle of the crater to observe the activity of this volcano, watching bubbles rising up from the centre. We will then head back to the capital once more to celebrate the final evening of this incredible tour.
Day 08 -Quito - Home
Depending on your departure time, our driver will pick you up at your hotel and take you to the airport, for your flight home or on to your next exciting destination.
