Discovering Yasuni - 5 Day Adventure

Today, we will continue our canoeing expedition, heading further into the lush tropical jungle. Every day spent in the Amazon is a different adventure and the deeper we head into the jungle, the more surprising and pristine this jungle becomes. The wildlife is more abundant and we can appreciate many species of monkeys, capybaras and tapirs, as well as bird species such as swallows, flycatchers, herons, sandpipers and hawks. Today we will also enjoy a short hike to learn more about the local medicinal plants. In the evening we will arrive at our campsite on the Tiputini River banks, where our chef will prepare a special gourmet dinner in this idyllic setting on the riverbank.

After breakfast we will head out in canoe once more, down the Tiputini River. The river will lead us to the Amarun Cocha, meaning Anaconda Lagoon in the native Amazonian dialect. The lagoon is found in pristine, virgin forest and is the habitat of the largest snake on the planet, the famous Anaconda. We can also enjoy the views over stunning landscapes with incredibly dark, clear waters in a flooded forest. Over here we will discover the magnificent piranhas, caimans and boa constrictors, amongst other animal species. We will head back to the campsite in canoes for a relaxing rest in the hammocks. In the evening, we will head out to discover some night- time species of insects, frogs and hopefully some snakes. 

After breakfast, we will head out on a hike to the lush green tropical rainforest to learn about the area's rich flora, including its medicinal plants. We will then take a canoe ride to the indigenous Kichwa community of Mandari Panga to learn about their traditional way of life, including their stories about their history and ancient practices. We will also learn how they make their traditional drink called chicha. In the afternoon we will go fishing out on the river.fr a relaxing afternoon activity.

Today we will wake up super early to head to the parrot clay lick. The idea is to see these spectacular birds by visiting the clay lick where a number of different bird species come together to feed on the mineral-rich clay. We will be able to see species of parrots and macaws, and even a few predators in the area. The minerals help the birds to digest and detoxify their standard jungle diet. Clay licks are unique in the Amazon rainforest because they offer the opportunity to see a wide range of Amazon wildlife. After this amazing experience, we will return to Coca for our flight back to the capital of Quito. This marks the end of our Ecuadorian Amazon experience, until the next time!
