This Amazonic camping expedition to the Amazon Basin is the perfect off the beaten track adventure for nature lovers, explorers and wildlife enthusiasts. The Yasuni National Park, found in Ecuador's Amazon basin, is world-famous for its spectacular biodiversity and authentic indigenous cultures, still very much alive today. As you kayak downriver and on the lagoons, you will have the impression that the animals follow you every step of the way. This home of parrots, toucans, macaws, kingfishers and herons flying over the river, are a sight to behold and the nosey giant otters will come up close and personal to check you out! Home to a number of monkey species, jumping from tree to tree and the spectacular jaguar, the master predator of the jungle, these magnificent animals share their habitat with the native Kichwa people. These indigenous tribes are happy to share their history and we will learn everything about their ancient connection with Mother Nature. This off the beaten track adventure into the jungle will leave you reconnecting with the planet on this sustainable and ecological adventure.

DAY BY DAY SCHEDULE

Make sure your flight arrives to the town of Coca in the morning to make the most of your time in the Ecuadorian Amazon. We will head out on a scenic drive to the Tiputini River, on the edge of the YASUNI National park. Here, we can enjoy a riverside picnic while the guide makes the final preparations for this jungle adventure.     Today, we will continue our canoeing expedition, heading further into the lush tropical jungle. Every day spent in the Amazon is a different adventure and the deeper we head into the jungle, the more surprising and pristine this jungle becomes.       After breakfast we will head out in canoe once more, down the Tiputini River. The river will lead us to the Amarun Cocha, meaning Anaconda Lagoon in the native Amazonian dialect. The lagoon is found in pristine, virgin forest and is the habitat of the largest snake on the planet, the famous Anaconda. We can also enjoy the views over stunning landscapes with incredibly dark, clear waters in a flooded forest.         After breakfast, we will head out on a hike to the lush green tropical rainforest to learn about the area's rich flora, including its medicinal plants. We will then take a canoe ride to the indigenous Kichwa community of Mandari Panga to learn about their traditional way of life, including their stories about their history and ancient practices. We will also learn how they make their traditional drink called chicha. In the afternoon we will go fishing out on the river.fr a relaxing afternoon activity.

          Today we will wake up super early to head to the parrot clay lick. The idea is to see these spectacular birds by visiting the clay lick where a number of different bird species come together to feed on the mineral-rich clay.             As in any city in the world, there can be pickpockets in crowded places. We suggest being vigilant at all times, but if you are in a group you will always be safer.

            We do not include the cost of any domestic or international flight in any of our programs. These services must be booked independently by each guest.

            Yes, hotels will charge the cost of a double room as standard, so a single supplement will be charged if you are traveling alone.

            Yes, you can travel with children and we have many activities to do as a family, however, depending on your itinerary, some experiences can be a bit demanding for young children. As a recommendation, we suggest that you ask your sales consultant if the tour you wish to book is suitable for children.

            We work with a maximum group size of 12 passengers for sustainability reasons and a more personaized experience.

            We suggest making your reservations at least one month before your trip in order to reserve the best hotels, transportation and services for your travel dates, however, in last minute cases, we can reserve up to 15 days in advance.

            Tips are not included in the cost of the tour. You should plan to tip 10% in restaurants and for your guided services, however, tipping is never required.

            Cultural norms vary within each Latin American country, even within each city within the country, however, we recommend the following measures to have a pleasant visit in each destination: Latin American culture in general tends to be closer and more informal than in others cultures, so there is usually always a friendly approach in all conversations, and going directly to the point could be considered offensive to some people. Personal space can be much shorter as well, but without being interpreted as sexual in nature. 

            The schedules are also usually more relaxed and informal, however, this is not the case of VA EXPEDITIONS, since we will always respect the hours indicated in your itinerary. This may be different for other appointments that you can book on your own at other locations.

            For city tours, there are public bathrooms available, in remote destinations bathroom facilities are more sparse.

            In the mountains and remote places there is no Internet connection. Hotels and public places usually have WIFI available.

            In cities and tourist centers you will have good telephone reception. In remote areas, there may be no cell phone reception.

            The tap water in Ecuador is not always friendly on the stomach for those who haven't been in Latin America for a while. There is purified water in each of the accommodations which you can use to fill up each morning, so be sure to pack a reusable water bottle or two. There will also be water in the transportation.
