No matter how many sunsets you have ever seen over the ocean, it is virtually impossible to visit Belize and pass up the opportunity to have a “cold one” at a beachfront bar. Belize may be the only Central American country without a Pacific coastline, but that doesn’t mean it is lacking when it comes to the best bars. Visit the cayes and grab a drink at any of the welcoming bars, with the perfect sunset and white sandy beaches, what more can you ask for? Here is a pick of Belize´s best bars.

Belize Bar

Wish Willy Bar & Grill

Wish Willy is the chef and owner of this watering hole.  Maurice Moore, operates an excellent a bar and grill that’s more like a barbecue at your best friend’s house. Pull up a deck chair and chat as the sun goes down over the water. Don’t be surprised if Maurice (Willy) lets you help yourself to the beers in the corner cooler. Keep your eyes open for a real “wish willy” when you do, these are the island’s distinctive iguanas!

Rain Restaurant and rooftop terrace

Rain will never actually live up to its name, on the contrary, this restaurant and rooftop terrace has an excellent vantage point for the perfect sunset experience. Go upstairs and order a ruby sea breeze or a ginger pear martini to sip on as you are choosing your meal. Highly recommended is a bowl of seafood ceviche, finishing up with a piña colada cheesecake.

Snooty’s Poolside Bar at Sirenian Bay Resort

Named after the first manatee born in captivity, the spirit of Snooty lives on at this poolside bar in the Sirenian Bay Resort. Finger foods like peel ‘n’ eat shrimp, chicken wings and nachos make it effortless to chow down while sipping on your favourite cocktail. Everything from beer to bloody Mary’s is on the menu, though how better to honour Snooty´s memory but with Snooty´s planter’s punch.

Belizian Cocktails

'PALAPA', Bar and Grill San Pedro, Ambergris Caye

The coolest bar on San Pedro isn’t actually on San Pedro. Palapa Bar & Grill floats on the Caribbean Sea, giving you a special drinks menu at sunset.  Loosen up and share a palapa punch which blends three types of rum and three juices for a cocktail that’s not too sour or sweet. Palapa is surrounded by giant rubber tyres if you feel like cooling down or sobering up!

Coconut Crusted Shrimp

The Lazy Lizard Bar & Grill

As long as you can walk from the Caye Caulker ferry terminal, you can lap up drinks from morning until midnight. This is the most famous bar this side of the split separating North and South of Caye Caulker with the bonus of live music every night.  A glass of their Frozen Lizard Juice is a must, as is the fried shrimp and chips on the menu, to “line the stomach”.

Sunset on Caye Cauker

The Northside Beach Club

Head to Caye Caulker marina and take a two-minute boat ride over to Northside Beach Club. By the time you read their exquisite cocktail menu, the sun should be about to set. Northside has a full moon party every month, so plan to be there with cocktails including grilled grapefruit palomas, sweet and sugary mermaid water, or a better-late-than-never Caribbean sunsets, until your heart is content.

Crocs Sunset Sports Bar

The Crocs big-screen TV´s play most sports games, including baseball, football and the other football. You can sink a cool beer as you keep an eye open for game day specials or you can completely drain the clock with a tall jalapeño-infused margarita, if you are feeling adventurous!

Crocs Bar

Lucca Restaurant & Bar

Lucca has an envious position on the eastern coast of Belize, which allows lucky drinkers an opportunity to catch the sunset over the water. A bucket of beer is the perfect partner to share the sunset with or for something a little more fun, check out the shots with shady names that are cool A.F. (And Fun !!!)
