You begin by flying into the city of Santa Cruz for this trip. This lower elevation jungle city has a warm climate and relaxed vibe to help you get settled into the country.

Sucre – 2 days

You will leave Santa Cruz on a flight to Sucre to see this colonial, city, the capital of Bolivia. spend some time just soaking up the sunshine as you meander among these picturesque colonial streets. Highlights include an educational dinosaur park with an impressive fossilized footprint collection, an abundance of leafy plazas, and the best-preserved colonial architecture in South America. Sample some of the city’s best restaurants and cafes and perhaps enjoy a beer or two after dark. Now it’s time to take a quick journey to Potosi.

Potosi – 2 days

Spend the rest of the day at leisure checking out the Casa de la Moneda or having a soak in the nearby hot springs before resting for the evening. The following morning take a tour deep into the depths of the notorious Cerro Rico silver mine. In this labyrinth of dark narrow tunnels, the Spanish conquistadores worked millions of slaves to death in search of silver to fund their wars. Despite nearing depletion, thousands of Bolivian miners still work here in difficult conditions.

Salar de Uyuni – 2 days

A trip to the famous Salar de Uyuni is an essential part of any Bolivian itinerary, even if you’re short on time. After gallivanting across the surreal landscapes of these otherworldly salt flats, spend the night in the town of Uyuni for a proper night’s sleep. The following day head out to the Eduardo Avaroa Reserve to see stunning desert landscapes and different colored lakes.

La Paz – 2 days

Early morning, we will fly to the city of La Paz has numerous attractions to explore as well as a myriad of worthwhile hikes just outside the city. At the very least, be sure to go for a ride on the cable car, shop for potions and lotions at the witch’s market, and peruse some of the city museums. La Paz has a rocking nightlife as well as excellent restaurants to enjoy once the sun goes down.
Other worthy attractions include the Valle de la Luna or a walking tour of the city’s impressive colonial architecture.

Lake Titicaca – 2 days

 

Copacabana doesn’t require an overnight stay, though it is worth checking out South America’s most beloved virgin inside the Basilica of Our Lady of Copacabana, as well as the Blessing of the Automobiles if the timing is right. Other worthwhile activities include hiking to the top of Cerro Calvario for amazing views or paddling around the lake in a canoe. The following day the Isla del Sol awaits you, with ferries that leave twice a day. Much of the island could be off limits due to a community dispute, but you could at least grab dinner at Las Velas and do some hiking with the Lake Titicaca always in sight.

Long before its borders were drawn in 1995, ecologists suspected Bolivia’s Madidi National Park to be among the most biodiverse on earth. And now, after an exhaustive scientific study many years in the making, the jewel of the country’s ecotourism crown is officially declared as home to the greatest variety of animal and plant life on the planet.

Yacuma River

Next up is a journey to the Bolivian Pampas and the Yacuma River. This tropical mosaic of swamps and grasslands in the Amazon Basin may not be as majestic as the Brazilian rainforest, but it is less crowded and home to just as vast a cornucopia of reptilians and because there aren’t as many trees, you don’t need stealth or patience to see them. They’re all around you at a snapping distance away. You will then head back to La Paz for the evening and your final night in Bolivia.
