The long snake-like coastline of Panama combines the magnificent Pacific Ocean with the laid-back Caribbean Sea. It's no surprise Panama's islands and mainland beaches are virtually untouched and pristine as well as some of the best in Latin America. It's a difficult task to choose the best of these incredible beaches, but the Panama beaches in general are an unforgettable experience. From Red Frog Beach, in Bocas del Toro, Panama, home to a million of small red frogs; Or Playa de las Estrellas whereas the name suggests, is home to a million starfish…… Prepare to be stunned and amazed!

Kuna Yala, San Blas

Playa de las Estrellas, Isla Colon

Playa de las Estrellas literally translates to Beach of the Stars in Spanish and you can understand why on a visit to this beach. Starfish are found in abundance in the crystal-clear waters of this Panama beach, which is also called Starfish Point. Located at the far northern tip of Isla Colon on the Bocas del Toro archipelago's largest island, Playa de las Estrellas is easily accessible from Bocas Town. Although Playa de las Estrellas is must-visit, for more relaxed activities like sun-bathing, you will want to walk to the nearby Panama beach, Bocas del Drago.

Red Frog Beach, Isla Bastimentos

Located on Isla Bastimentos in Panama's Bocas del Toro archipelago, Red Frog Beach is one of the most popular Panama beaches for the backpacker community. The island's unique miniature rainforest is home to some of Panama's richest island biodiversity, including the reason for the name of this beach, the red tree frog. The area is protected for these incredible animal species and their continued survival.

San Blas Islands

Not many travelers make it all the way to the San Blas Islands in Panama's north-eastern Kuna Yala district. Many of the most pristine island beaches in the Americas are located in the San Blas archipelago, in fact, almost every island is surrounded by white powdery sand. Popular islands for visitors are Isla Pelicano, Dolphin Island, and Isla Robinson. Carti is a great destination for those who want to sleep in a genuine Kuna village, though the beaches themselves, tours to nearby San Blas beaches are usually included. Accommodations in San Blas are usually basic with huts and mosquito netting -- and meals include whatever the catch of the day is that day.

Taboga Island, Panama Bay

Near Panama City, along the Pacific coast, the beaches aren't as spectacular as on the Caribbean coastline, however Taboga Island is the exception to this rule.  Located in the Panama Bay, the island is just a quick ferry ride from Panama City, which is perfect for those who don't have the time to travel all the way to Bocas del Toro. The island is rich with local history and stories of pirates, conquistadors, and treasures which adds to the cool vibe of the area.

Boca Brava

Boca Brava is yet another Panama island that sees far less tourism than you'd expect, represented by its picturesque golden beaches. The island sits at the western tip of Panama's Pacific coast, in the Gulf of Chiriqui near the border of Costa Rica. To get there, take a quick boat ride from the fishing village of Boca Chica, about an hour from David.

Contadora Island, the Pearl Islands

Located 80 km from Panama City in the Pacific Ocean, Contadora Island is the largest of the Pearl Islands. The island offers thirteen separate beaches to explore, and travelers can easily book tours to uninhabited islands nearby. There is even a tour offering a “Survivor”  experience based on the TV series.

Coiba Island

Coiba Island is the largest island in Central America. Found off Panama's Pacific Coast, Coiba is an emerging destination, especially for divers and travelers intrigued by Coiba's abundant biodiverse sea-life. A number of endemic species live on the massive island, like the Coiba Island Howler monkey and the Coiba Agouti. Coiba's beaches are absolutely stunning the only negative is the lack of accommodation and the only option for an overnight stay on this super-protected island is at the ranger station, which offers two air-conditioned rooms.
