Puerto Montt

 

Puerto Montt stands out on the map as it dwarfs the little town of Puerto Varas. However, as you proceed through Chile you will hear time and time again from other travellers that Puerto Varas is the best location to make base camp and explore the surrounding areas. The authentic little village sits lakeside at the bottom of two hills, and is a quiet little hub. Visit the Todos Los Santos lake, Osorno Volcano is a stunning sight on the skyline, or the Laguna Verde...the options from this amazing lodge to get back to nature in the Chilean Lake district are second to none!
Petrohue Lodge offers traditional Patagonian rustic accommodation in a scenic spot close to the shores of Lake Todos los Santos.  What a setting Petrohue Lodge has, with the snow-covered cone of the volcano Osorno looming above, while alongside its woodland location is the Todos Los Santos lale, fed by crystalline rivers running out of icy glaciers.  The rustic theme continues inside, with cosy wood-walled guest rooms have central heating while the sitting room is warmed by a crackling log fire. It’s a place for lovers of the open air and there are plenty of outdoor activities on offer, including trekking, cycling, horse riding and fishing, while on the property itself you’ll find a restaurant, sauna, indoor and outdoor pools and a gym.

Patagonia is a region shrouded in so much beauty and character that it seems almost mythical. Sprawling desert crashes abruptly into jagged peaks, twisting rivers wind through pristine forest and ancient glaciers carve out a world that has attracted travellers for centuries.
The green domes of the Eco lodge at the bottom of the Paine Massif are an iconic symbol for responsible tourism in Chile. These large, beautifully decorated domes come complete with a sitting area, king size bed, a wood-fire stove, private bathroom and a gas heater to protect you from the patagonic winds of Torres del Paine.  It’s entirely possible to simply stay in some of the domes and do your own independent hikes and excursions, or enjoy one of the Eco Camps many programs that are all-inclusive, meaning you get your accommodation, food, wine and guided excursions included as part of the package. They have adventure programs with horse riding, kayaking and multi-day trekking, and offer opportunities to trek the W with them, as well as offering a Wildlife Safari through Torres del Paine.

The capital of Chile and found in the central valley, Santiago is a beautiful city to explore and take in the view, especially after it rains and the Andes mountains stand tall and brilliant in the distance. After decades of attracting tourists with the country’s stunning geographical diversity and its proximity to the magnificent Andes and the wine growing regions below, this fascinating city is well worth spending sometime there, as you pass through for your international flight back home.
