Bolivia 4 Day Extension

Today we have an early flight from La Paz to Uyuni.  On arrival, at 11 am approx, we will set out for the salt flats and pass through a small settlement called Colchani, where the locals process salt to this day.  We will leave really early to appreciate the sunrise in the middle of the salt flats to see it’s”eyes”  salt mountains and salt piles. We will then continue on to the middle of the Salt Flats to see the lagoons "eyes", salt mountains and salt blocks. This unique route takes us into one of the world's most isolated areas with a glittering, white landscape for company.  We will then head to the Isla del Pescado (Fish Island) or Incahuasi Island to look at giant cacti, birds and vizcachas (chinchillas) that have made their home on this island. We will then head off to our Salt Hotel for the evening!

We will leave very early in the morning from the Salt Hotel to see the spectacular sunrise over the salt flats. We will then head on towards the Tunupa Volcano- the so-called “guardian” of the salt flats, visit the Chantani museum and see the Coquesa mummies, all found within this truly unique landscape.

At midday, we will stop for a buffet of delicious local produce in the middle of the salt flats, and then in the afternoon, we take one of the hundreds of routes across the salt flats to watch the sun go down in a blaze of intense colours. Our team will be waiting for you in the middle of the salt flats with an amazing table of wine, cheese and other local products. 

Bright and early, we will drive from Uyuni to the Eduardo Avaroa Reserve, leaving the salt flats behind us and heading to the region's deserts and lakes. We will pass through the majestic highland area, to look out at spectacular mountains and whimsical landscapes. This is where the native llamas and vicuñas welcome you to winding streams and offer an insight into the daily life of the locals of the area.  

We will continue on through the Siloli Desert and pass the Blanca, Honda, Hedionda and Chiarcota Lagoons to relax and have lunch. As we continue on through the desert to the geysers, Sol de Mañana, the Stone Tree of the Dali desert and the Laguna Verde, on our way to San Pedro de Atacama, where our team in Chile will be waiting for you.
