DAY BY DAY SCHEDULE

We will collect you from San Pedro de Atacama. We will head to Hito Cajón for an unforgettable and impressive trip across the border to Bolivia, enjoying stunning scenery, dominated by the Licancabur Volcano. One of the most impressive lagoons in the Eduardo Avaroa National Reserve is the Green Lagoon. This is one of the highlights of our 4 x 4 expedition. The esoterical beauty of this lagoon is really like no other in the world. Leaving this stunning Green Lagoon, we will pass through the Desert of Dali and the hot springs of...

After breakfast, we will drive through the Siloli desert. We pass through some small villages, such as Culpina and San Cristobal on the way to Uyuni. Here we take the road to Colchani situated on the borders of the salt flats where the local villagers process the salt to this day.

We will wake up really early to appreciate the spectacular sunrise in the middle of the salt flats to see the “eyes” of the salt flats, salt mountains and salt blocks. After the salt flats, we will head to the Uyuni Airport to take the flight to La Paz. Once we arrive, we will take the cable car, to the centre of the city, offering spectacular views over the city of La Paz, an incredible welcome to the eclectic, vibrant, unofficial capital of Bolivia.

Exploring the city of La Paz is like wandering into “Narnia” or any magical kingdom. La Paz sits in a valley and looks different from every angle you approach it from. As you tour the city, you will get a feel for the social, cultural and economic vibe, best experienced as you glide through the sky on the city’s cable car like an urban Tarzan!  The city of La Paz, at over 3,600 metres elevation features some incredible highlights: The San Francisco Church, the Witches’ Market and many museums are found in...

After breakfast, we will leave the vibrant city of La Paz for Bolivia’s most famous Pre-Inca archaeological site, Tiwanaku, which is one of the oldest pre-Colombian cultures and once the centre of the Tiwanaku civilisation. This archaeological site consists of the Pyramid of Akapana, the Kalasasaya temple, the Sungate and a number of museums. We will then visit the community of Laja, where the city of La Paz was founded, to sample the homemade, unleavened bread. In the afternoon we will drive to Copacabana on the shores of Lake...

We will start our day with a visit to the Palace of Pilcocaina and after a spectacular walk across the Island of the Sun, local people will show us the art of fishing and how farming has developed on the Island since pre-Inca times. We will then take a short trip to the Island of the Moon, where a local community will be waiting for us with a traditional lunch called an “Apthapi”. In the afternoon, we will then cross the border into Peru and head to the city of Puno or return to the city of La Paz, depending on your trave...

We suggest that you speak with your doctor to ensure that you are up-to-date with the recommended vaccinations when traveling to the destination. In any case, a negative Coronavirus Molecular Test (PCR) is needed to enter the country.

We suggest that you speak with your doctor to ensure what medications you will need to bring to the destination. Pharmacies and drugstores are common in all cities, however, it is not certain that you will be able to find a specific drug that you can find in your country of origin.

As in any city in the world, there can be pickpockets in crowded places. We suggest being vigilant at all times, but if you are in a group you will always be safer.

We do not include the cost of any domestic or international flight in any of our programs. These services must be booked independently by each guest.

Yes, hotels will charge the cost of a double room as standard, so a single supplement will be charged if you are traveling alone.

Cultural norms vary within each Latin American country, even within each city within the country, however, we recommend the following measures to have a pleasant visit in each destination: Latin American culture in general tends to be closer and more informal than in others cultures, so there is usually always a friendly approach in all conversations, and going directly to the point could be considered offensive to some people. Personal space can be much shorter as well, but without being interpreted as sexual in nature.

The schedules are also usually more relaxed and informal, however, this is not the case of VA EXPEDITIONS, since we will always respect the hours indicated in your itinerary. This may be different for other appointments that you can book on your own at other locations.

This depends on each itinerary, and will be indicated in the detail of the day. However, our itineraries always usually include free times to offer more flexibility to our guests.

The tours are carried out by an expert team that has determined the optimal times of visits to make the most of our guests' time, without rushing. All our programs are customizable, so if at any time at the destination you want to adjust the pace of the trip, you can ask your guide to reach a consensus with the whole group in case you need to make adjustments to the pace of the trip.

For city tours, there are public bathrooms available, in remote destinations bathroom facilities are more sparse.
