Swim in a Cenote
A cenote is a deep, water-filled sinkhole created when the roof of an underground cavern collapses. A natural pool is created with spring water and rainwater. You'll find caves, underground rivers, and cenotes all around the Yucatan Peninsula where the ground is primarily made up of limestone.
The Mayan people using sinkholes as a place for sacrificial rituals, but now cenotes are popular with travellers who come to escape the heat and take a dip into these deep, natural swimming holes.
See the Whales in Baja California
Whales head to the Sea of Cortez in Baja California Sur to give birth and this area is known internationally for this spectacle.
In fact, the Sea of Cortez was described as the “the world’s aquarium” by Jacques Cousteau. The whales you’re most likely to see are grey whales, humpbacks, blue whales, and whale sharks. But there are times you can see Orca´s and other species.
Go Snorkelling
Mexico is one of the best places on the planet for snorkelling and SCUBA diving. The impressive coral reef and the brightly coloured fish attract divers from all over the world to its warm Caribbean waters.
SCUBA diving requires special training courses but anyone can snorkel. There are boat excursions that can take you to the best snorkelling sites along the Yucatan, Cozumel and all of the Maya riviera, including some inland snorkelling in one of the many Cenotes.
