Vibrant, fast-paced, and full of history, Panama City in Central America has so much to offer travelers. Panama City is a place like no other. Panama city is dominated by skyscrapers, a sign of how affluent and successful the city is. Almost everyone speaks English, even going as far as to say “have a nice day” at the end of a conversation. Large air-conditioned shopping malls are on the corner of every other block. Yellow taxis take you around with slow practiced efficiency and delectable cuisine for all budgets. Home to The Panama Canal, this world-renowned engineering marvel is a 65 km artificial waterway connecting the Atlantic Ocean and the Pacific Ocean, opening the way between two continents and transforming the face of maritime shipping forever. There are many ways to experience the Panama Canal, from the Miraflores Locks in Panama City to the partial or total boat tours that cross the Canal to Colon.

Casco Viejo, Panama City
Chitre
Chitre is considered the cultural cradle of Panama. The capital of Herrera Province and the largest town on the Azuero Peninsula, Chitre is a slow-paced market center studded with colorful discount stores. Known for its beautiful plazas, churches, parks, bakeries, and the Museum de la Herrera, an anthropology museum, the town is the peninsula’s central transport hub and a good base for exploration. Chitre centers on the bandstand, trees, and benches of Parque Unión. The square is flanked on one side by the gleaming-white Catedral San Juan Bautista, with its impressive, vaulted wooden roof and extensive gilded wooden paneling. Interact with local craftspeople, listen to musical demonstrations and witness the creation of the famous colorful polleras. Discover the city on foot and meet the locals to get a sense of the slow pace of life and relaxing lifestyle unique to the area. The Ron Abuelo tour at Hacienda San Isidro is the perfect day trip, and you can learn a lot from knowledgeable guides. This is an excellent trip for children and adults with many open spaces to explore nature, and they offer a menu for kids. The Hacienda San Isidro is beautiful, and the rum tasting is beautifully organized with snacks and a wonderful lunch.

Isla Iguana
Just 8 kilometers off the coast of Pedasí lies Isla Iguana. With turquoise water, white sand beaches, mangroves, and an exciting underwater life to discover on a snorkeling tour, it is a perfect day trip for those looking to explore under the water. Make sure you visit both Playa El Ciral and Playita El Faro, two of the most beautiful beaches of the Azuero Peninsula. The Isla Iguana Wildlife Refuge is the ideal place to visit with family and friends and explore incredible sightseeing opportunities. After World War II, it became a world-famous tourist destination due to its 10km of sandy white shores. The sanctuary protects many precious species of birds, animals, tropical fish, and even a large coral reef. The reef itself is five hundred years old and spreads over thirty-seven acres. It is home to twelve different coral species and two hundred fish species. Mango and guava trees dot the refuge as well. With 136 acres, this is one of the largest wildlife sanctuaries. The sanctuary is the home of some rare species, like black and green iguanas, red-throated frigates, and boa constrictors.
