Chitre is considered the cultural cradle of Panama. It is home to twelve different coral species and two hundred fish species. Mango and guava trees dot the refuge as well. With 136 acres, this is one of the largest wildlife sanctuaries. The sanctuary is the home of some rare species, like black and green iguanas, red-throated frigates, and boa constrictors.
