Buenos Aires

The bohemian and cosmopolitan capital of Argentina has it all from dancing to iconic cemeteries. Buenos Aires is the undisputed tango capital of the world. When the sun sets it is almost as if the whole city is dancing. The tango shows in La Boca or the impromptu street dances are the gentlest introduction to this fierce and energetic dance. But to discover the real culture of the tango – the rules, the codes, the politics, the drama – you need to find a milonga. At a milonga, people come to dance, drink to watch, and be watched.

Tango, Bueno Aires

Dine on some of the finest beef in the world, Buenos Aires seems to have parrillas (steakhouses) on every street corner. Argentinians like their steaks well done, so if you don’t, ask for al punto (medium), jugoso (medium rare), or poco cocido (rare). The colorful neighborhoods of Buenos Aires will enthrall you. La Boca is a riot of color and music, a buzzing barrio where people tango on the streets and houses are painted every color of the rainbow. It’s also home to La Bombonera, where the world-famous Boca Juniors play, and on match days the area is even livelier. The Northern suburbs such as Palermo are a must if you like street art, created by artists from all over the world. Buenos Aires is home to the largest street market in South America called San Telmo. Held every Sunday between 10 am and 5 pm, stallholders, tango dancers, and musicians descend upon the cobbled streets here, and stalls are filled with mesmerizing antiques as far as the eye can see.

El Calafate

El Calafate, Argentina is small, vibrant, and filled with tasty treats, and of course, there’s a huge range of activities to do in El Calafate. El Calafate is the town of Artisanal foods and drinks in Patagonia and the craft beer here is amazing! There are plenty of places to go where you can try many different beers before heading out to the glaciers! Patagonia is home to its own unique dishes that are very hearty and meat-based. From the slow-roasted lamb to massive burgers and stews, there’s so much to try in El Calafate! The one dish you can’t leave without trying is the Lamb al Asador. El Calafate is also a really good place to try a huge selection of artisanal chocolate that’s locally made and super cheap. Throughout El calafate, there are plenty of different chocolatiers that serve small blocks of chocolate in a huge range of flavors.

Glacier Hike on Perito Moreno

The main reason why many people visit El Calafate is the magnificent Perito Moreno glacier. Named after Argentinian explorer Francisco Moreno, Perito Moreno is a massive glacier, and that's an understatement! The glacier that is fed by South Patagonian Ice Field ends in Lago Argentino and even creates a barrier between this lake and Lago Rico, which gives way to the enormous pressure every few years. The constant crackling sound of ice, which was also a bit frightening, reminds you just how powerful nature can be. Visitors can explore the Perito Moreno glacier from a network of trails, boardwalks, and viewing platforms on the hill opposite the glacier. Perito Moreno is one of the most accessible glaciers in Patagonia and potentially in the entire world. And unlike the majority of the glaciers around the world, this one is not retreating, though the reasons are not fully explained.

El Chalten

El Chalten is a magical place surrounded by stunning landscapes and unique mountain peaks that rival those in Torres del Paine National Park. It’s a place that just has to be seen! One of the most amazing parts is the drive to El Chalten and on your tour, they’ll make plenty of stops to take in the views. hike to Laguna de Los Tres at the base of Mount Fitzroy. This is arguably the most beautiful hike in Patagonia and in my opinion, more beautiful than Las Torres in the Torres del Paine National Park. El Chalten, a village near the borders of Chile, is known as Argentina's hiking capital. Trekking and hiking in El Chalten are among the top activities in Argentina's Los Glaciares National Park in Patagonia. This small village close to the borders has one of the most beautiful mountains, glaciers, and lakes.

Hiking Laguna de Los Tres

Los Glaciares National Park is home to many majestic peaks, but two-day hikes that stand above them all are treks to Laguna Torre, wherefrom the shore you can see Cerro Torre and Laguna de Los Tres with characteristic Cerro Fitz Roy. A day hike to Laguna de Los Tres, alias Mount Fitz Roy is for most travelers the main reason to arrive in El Chalten. The characteristically shaped Mount Fitz Roy is towering above the stunningly blue waters of Laguna de Los Tres, and this trip is totally worth the effort! The view from the lake's shore is breathtaking, but to get the lesser-known yet even more incredible view, continue a hundred meters or so along the path on your left only to see another lagoon! El Chalten is literally a hiker's heaven!

Mendoza

Mendoza is a beautiful city resting in the foothills of the Andes. It sits underneath the highest peak in the western hemisphere – Aconcagua - which stands at a staggering 6,960 m. Argentina’s fourth largest city is a bustling and energetic metropolis that basks daily in a perpetually warm and sunny climate. Despite its size, Mendoza’s atmosphere feels more fitting with that of a peaceful small town though this takes nothing away from its cosmopolitan vibe. The avenues, parks, and plazas of Mendoza are lined with trees and the surrounding suburbs overflow with gardens and orchards making this one of Argentina’s most pleasant and attractive cities.

Mendoza Street

It also boasts some of the finest wine to be found in the world, understandably a key attraction for visitors and travelers in the region. The dry and sunny Mendoza region is ideal for cultivating grapes and producing delicious wine. It has now come to be known as the ‘wine capital’ of Argentina due to the fact that many world-famous wineries are located in and around the city.  Malbec is now the most common grape in the vineyards followed by Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Chardonnay. Each grape type gives its own distinctive qualities to the wine; from the deep ruby of cabernet to the smooth texture of the merlot to the character of the Chardonnay. But for those looking for something uniquely Argentinian, travelers should try the Malbec, a rich and tasty red wine that is becoming increasingly recognized across the globe. Although Malbec is grown in other parts of the world it is extremely well suited to the Mendoza climate giving the Malbec wine here a quality,  body, and depth that is unrivaled in the world.
