What to Do in Mato Grosso

Rio da Prata
Rio da Prata

You can snorkel down the Rio da Prata from Bonito or Jardim. This is an eco-tourism centre where you can snorkel down the river and see an enormous array of fish and water species. This freshwater river is so crystalline and transparent and the natural current will take you downriver to see an astonishing array of aquatic life… it's like living in another world for an hour or so! Jardim is the calmer version along the Rio da Prata. With a more low-key vibe and access to all the important snorkelling diving and incredible caves. There are many natural baths in the area as well as hiking through the jungle. There are many activities for all, adventure lovers, families or solo travellers; everyone is catered for!

The Pantanal
The Pantanal

The Pantanal is the biggest marshland in the world, covering more than 150,000 square km. It is the home to the most animal species on the planet… a wildlife lover's paradise! 80% of the Pantanal is submerged underwater during the rainy season, which produces a large number of aquatic plants to feed the massive variety of animal species. The primary way to see the incredible way of life in this region is to do nothing… sit still and watch! Each day brings a different environment and different species with it. The quieter you are, the more you will see! The area is vital for migratory birds, which is why many reserves have been set up in the area to preserve these important habitats.

Bonito
Bonito

Found in Matto Grosso and at the entrance to the northern Pantanal is a small town called Bonito. This area is home to a maze of rivers and grasslands and the home of many caimans, boas and jaguars. The main reasons to visit Bonito are the crystal clear lakes and rivers of the area which are considered the cleanest and most transparent waters in the world.  You can also see incredible caves, waterfalls and transparent oasis's the perfect place to kick back for a week or so! From here you have easy access to The Macaw Hole and Rio da Prata including a giant sinkhole, a snorkeler’s heaven! All these combined make Bonito, live up to its name.

The Brazilian Savanna
The Brazilian Savanna

The Brazilan Savanna is for those who are truly looking to get off  the Brazilian Track! These remote areas such as Jalapao are perfect for activities such as trekking, horse riding, and even hot air balloon travel.......amongst the impressive activities for the adrenalin junkie in you! Not only are there activities abound, the scenery and wildlife is second to none. Chapada dos Veadeiros is characterized by lush vegetation, orange earthen trails, sandy dunes and incredible lagoons periodically spread through the area. The Brazilian savanna contains almost a third of Brazil's biodiversity but less than 10% is officially protected and its native vegetation is threatened by a rapidly-advancing agricultural frontier.
