Today is a free day in the hustle and bustle of Sao Paolo, experience the galleries and eateries of the city knowing that your sanctuary awaits at the end of the day.

Discover the wilderness of Ubatuba, near the border of São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, in 20 hectares of Atlantic Forest reserve, on the shore of the Ubatumirim River. Combine this with incredible ethnocultural diversity, from the local, indigenous people, belonging to the local communities while increasing social awareness by interacting with the quilombolas and caiçara people. Reconnect with your inner-self, with yoga classes, venture through the woods on a hiking trail to the Aguapé River, The Banana Bamboo Eco-lodge’s core principle is respect towards the environment, highlighted in its bio- construction. They use renewable sources such as water from rainfall, wastewater treatment, solar heaters, paint made from natural pigments, local cuisine with organic ingredients and by supporting the local economy.

The UNESCO world heritage sites of Paraty and Ilha Grande offer incredible natural beauty as well as cultural diversity.  As we meander through Paraty’s historical centre, with its cobbled streets and beautiful squares, heading to idyllic beaches with crystal waters, we can discover the only tropical fjord in the world and visit a fully restored colonial-era ranch turned into an environmental project with agroecological activities and farm to table cuisine. The Pousada Literária is surrounded by cultural richness and natural exuberance, in the comfort of a colonial house.

Take a snorkelling or diving trip in one of the many bays of Paraty. Boat rides are stunning and fun. The beaches are stunning with water sports aplenty. Or head inland to the waterfalls of Pedra Branca and Andorinhas or go hiking along Caminho do Ouro- The Gold Trail. There are many trails through the Atlantic Rainforest to remote tropical beaches, to relax and enjoy the scenery.

We will then head over to Ilha Grande’s Asalem, a rustic seaside hideaway in the dense Atlantic Forest with its magical atmosphere of candles, gas-lit lamps and rich marine fauna. The design concept of Asalem is one of a personal sanctuary combined with respect for the environment of the island.

A free day on Isla Grande to explore the stunning beaches. Visit The Blue Lagoon or Lagoa Azul for breath-taking snorkelling. Freguesia de Santana Beach for its crystalline waters and shoals of fish perfect for snorkelers and divers, Japariz Beach and its spectacular island views and Saco do Ceu, for the idyllic ocean scene.

Today we leave the idyllic Ilha Grande for the better known and impressive beaches of Rio de Janeiro. We will settle into the Arena Leme Hotel, one of the most environmentally friendly hotels in the city. They actively promote reduced water usage, waste reduction, eco-friendly decor and partnerships with a number of environmental programmes, positively contributing to the reduction of pollution in the big city.

There is more to the wonderful city than beaches, football and samba. Dig deeper for more profound and meaningful experiences that offer a reconnection with nature, socio-environmental awareness, and reflections for the future. Explore the Museum of Tomorrow, which proposes a debate and reflection on a more sustainable world; enjoy the secluded beach of Grumari, full of peace and stunning panoramas of pristine coastline. Head to the Tijuca National Park where you can participate in a yoga class or enjoy a gourmet picnic. There are many greener options in this eclectic city.

Today is our final day to either stay in Rio de Janeiro for a few more days or head on to your next unique destination!
