On arrival at the airport, you will be met by your English speaking guide who will take you to the hotel in the centre. Valparaíso is a port on Chile’s coast. It's known for its cable cars heading up the steep slopes and its colourful houses on the hilltops. We will visit La Sebastiana, the quirky former residence of Chilean poet Pablo Neruda, which is now a museum offering spectacular views over The Pacific Ocean. Many European immigrants left their mark on the city’s architecture and cultural institutions, many of which can be found around the central Plaza.
After breakfast, your guide will collect you to go to the airport for the flight to Puerto Natales, down in Patagonia. On arrival, you will be met and transferred to your hotel for the afternoon. We will have a detailed briefing of our trip to the Torres del Paine National Park, where you will receive your map and entrance ticket.
Today, we start at 6:30 am to take the bus to Torres del Paine National Park. We will depart to one of the park's main viewing points, The Las Torres Base Lookout Point. After the ascent, with impressive views over the park, we will descend once more you will return to the Central Sector to have dinner and rest for the evening.
Today we will trek 13, 5 km on a moderate trail to The Francés Sector, along the shore of Nordenskjöld Lake, Almirante Nieto Hill, and the striking Cuernos del Paine. Throughout the hike, we will enjoy spectacular views of Los Cuernos, hanging glaciers, lakes, and the abundant local flora and fauna, native to the National Park. After dinner, we will spend the night the Cuernos or Francés Sector.
Today’s hike is more difficult and longer at 17, 5 km. We will also climb slightly higher in elevation, reaching a 762-metre elevation. We will begin with one of the main attractions of the route, the Francés Valley. We begin with a short hike to the Italiano Campsite. From here, we will start to climb through the woods for approximately 2 km, up the Francés River Valley. Today is a 19 km trek to the Pehoé Lake, which offers one of the most unforgettable vistas of the park, the magnificent Grey Glacier. The trail goes around the Paine Grande Hill, the highest peak in the mountain range at 3,050 metres elevation, with incredible views of its hanging glaciers. Yes, you can travel with children and we have many activities to do as a family, however, depending on your itinerary, some experiences can be a bit demanding for young children. Cultural norms vary within each Latin American country, even within each city within the country, however, we recommend the following measures to have a pleasant visit in each destination: Latin American culture in general tends to be closer and more informal than in others cultures, so there is usually always a friendly approach in all conversations, and going directly to the point could be considered offensive to some people. Personal space can be much shorter as well, but without being interpreted as sexual in nature.
The schedules are also usually more relaxed and informal, however, this is not the case of VA EXPEDITIONS, since we will always respect the hours indicated in your itinerary. This may be different for other appointments that you can book on your own at other locations.
