4.Cancellations by us  

 Very rarely it is necessary to cancel holiday/flight arrangements and we reserve the right in our absolute discretion to do so. However, we will not cancel after the date the final balance of your holiday falls due unless your default in payment or we are forced to do so as a result of unusual and unforeseeable circumstances beyond our control, the consequences of which we could not have avoided even with all due care. 

5. Refunds: 

Refunds, if applicable, will be processed within 15 business days of receiving a written cancellation notice. The refund will be issued in the original form of payment. 

6. Booking Modifications: 

Clients may request modifications to their bookings, subject to availability and additional fees where applicable. 

7. Force Majeure: 

We regret that we cannot accept liability or pay any compensation where your package holiday is cancelled, curtailed, delayed or in any way changed or where the performance or prompt performance of our contractual obligations is prevented or affected in whole or part as a result of unavoidable and extraordinary circumstances beyond our control, the consequences of which could not have been avoided even if all reasonable measures had been taken and amounting to 'Force Majeure'. Force Majeure does not constitute either change or cancellation by us and should be covered by your travel insurance. Such circumstances include but are not limited to, war, the threat of war, riots, civil disturbances, terrorist activity and its consequences, industrial disputes, natural and nuclear disasters, fire, epidemics, health risks and pandemics, unavoidable and unforeseeable technical problems with transport for reasons beyond our control or that of our suppliers, closed or congested airports, hurricanes, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, tsunamis, and other actual or potential severe weather conditions.

It’s the most common fruit to mix with the cachaça in a Caipirinha which are sold on the streets and beaches of Brazil. Caipirinha is equivalent to Mexico’s margarita in terms of a popular tourist drink. Not everyone likes it but even so, you will still see everyone on the beaches having a sip. 

Canjica 
Canjica is traditionally served during winter festivals. But this sweet and simple dish can be found any time of the year. It’s made out of whole pieces of white corn and coconut milk. 

Cinnamon on top is also a popular choice. It’s honestly a bowl of happiness! Some also add cloves to their recipe, especially in the northeast of Brazil. Moqueca 
Originating from Bahia, this seafood stew prepared with diced tomatoes, onions, coriander and a dash of coconut milk, with an assortment of vegetables, and peppers, is a must try! 

Moqueca is always served hot. Try it with some rice or farofa and you will get up from the dining table feeling content. It is crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside. Pao de Queijo is easy to find and can be enjoyed any time of the day as the perfect snack. Different areas offer different types of cheese fillings and some areas even include meat into the mix. Pao de queijo is served in cups in Brazil in small pieces of 12 and many Brazilians also make their own Pao de queijo at home. 

Pastel 
Pastel is a crispy, golden brown, fried pasty. Pastels are commonly filled with savory cheese and meat but if your sweet toothed, you can also find pastels are filled with chocolate and jam.  Pastel is eaten at any time of the day but is famously served in butecos (small bars). There are many conflicting and hazy stories about the origin of cachaça.  In a certain way, we can consider that the Portuguese started it in the Madeira islands when they began distilling sugarcane juice.  One of the versions told is that the distillate was created in Pernambuco province when a slave, who travelled on the farm, left the “cagaça” which is the foam that was created on the top of an open vat of sugarcane juice.  The liquid fermented naturally and due to the natural fluctuations in temperature, evaporated and condensed, forming small drops of cachaça (“pingos”) in the roof of the farmhouse. The mildly pejorative term “pinga” was created in the popular imagination from this story.  

Brazil’s most famous cocktail, the caipirinha, is shaken and stirred all throughout the country, from beach front bars to the Amazon jungle. The caipirinha is a simple drink made with fresh lime juice, a heap of sugar and its most important ingredient: cachaça. Here is a short history of both the spirit itself and the cocktail. 

The fact that cachaça accompanied Brazilian history from the beginning, with the initiation of sugar in the country, then the growth into the territorial frontiers of Brazil, and finally arriving to the urbanization of the country.  Originally, cachaça was destined for slaves but gradually became a popular tipple throughout the country, turning into an important component of the national economy, and as a consequence, proliferated across all of the coast of Brazil. 

In the last few decades, important works have contributed to the revalorization of cachaça and its recognition as a national heritage.  In 1996, the president Fernando Henrique Cardoso legitimized cachaca as a “product typically of Brazil”, establishing criteria for its manufacturing and commercialization.  In 2012, a law conferred onto cachaça as “Heritage of Culture and History” in the state of Rio de Janeiro. 

Caipirinha’s 
So, now that cachaça is covered, let’s take a look at the cocktail itself. Traditional Caipirinhas are very simple to prepare, you simply mix lime juice, sugar, and cachaça. The best caipirinhas are a fine balance of the sweet and the acidic without the lime or sugar overpowering the other. The drink is made from relatively inexpensive ingredients, making it quite popular at beachside bars. If cachaça turns out to be too strong, as it is for many non-Brazilians, then consider a caipiroska, the same drink made with vodka, as an alternative.

Do I need a visa? 
The government of Brazil has announced starting on June 17, 2019 the entry visa will be waived for citizens from the United States, Canada, Japan and Australia. The British also do not require a visa. If you are from another country, check with your Brazilin Consulate in your country for visa requirements. 

Is my passport valid? 
Your passport must be valid at least 6 months following the end of your trip for entry into Brazil. If it expires sooner, you must get a renewal.You will also need a full blank page in your passport for stamps. 

Do I need any Vaccinations? 
Vaccinations for Measles and Yellow Fever are recommended for entry to Brazil. Yellow Fever vaccination is recommended if your itinerary will include the Amazon or Pantanal regions. How much money should I bring? 
Depending on the length of your trip, plan to bring $300-600 per person for spending money, tips, taxi rides, additional visits and those meals not included in the itinerary. 

Should I bring cash or traveler’s checks? 
Cash is the easiest to exchange and most places accept US dollars. Credit or debit cards are also easy to use at most establishments. Be sure to check with your bank prior to your departure to inform them that you will be using your card in a foreign country. Traveler’s checks are less efficient and may take extra time and documentation to use. Find current exchange rates. 

Are ATM machines available? 
Yes. There are ATM machines in the main cities such as Rio, Salvador and Manaus. We recommend using the ones located inside some hotels, stores, restaurants or banks. Be cautious as some thieves may watch these machines and target tourists and others who take out large amounts of cash. Consult with your guide for safety recommendations on ATM’s or exchanging money. 

Is Brazil safe? 
We consider Brazil a safe destination. After many years operating trips to Brazil, our travelers have never experienced a problem with safety, whether in the cities or on rural tourist areas. You can review an updated Country information page from the US State Department’s website. 

What about theft? 
Petty theft in Brazil’s cities is not much higher than in any large city in the USA or Europe. Common sense is important. Use the safety deposit box at your hotel for your passport and extra money (carry only as much as you might spend each day) and leave jewellery and expensive items at home. 

What will the weather be like? 
Brazil is a tropical nation with warm temperatures moderated by altitude, sea winds, or polar fronts. Coastal cities such as Rio de Janeiro, Recife & Salvador are warm with daytime highs between 30-35°C. The southern In the Amazon temperatures above 35°C occur during the warmest months of October & November (average temperature is around 28-30°C), and the hottest part of Brazil is the northeast. How do I train for my trip? 
If you lead an active lifestyle (walking, cycling, swimming, tennis, etc. on a regular basis) you will be fine in Brazil. If you are planning a hiking trip, then some day hikes are recommended to get into shape.

Half dance and half martial art, capoeira is an integral aspect of Brazil culture and has been slowly spreading across the world in popularity. The dance movements and the traditional music involved in capoeira is a captivating experience, making it a must-see activity on your Brazil vacation package. Here is an introduction to Brazilian capoeira, its origins and history. 

History 
Like many customs and traditions in Brazil, especially in northern Brazil, capoeira has deep rooted African influences due to the slave trade. Africans forced into slavery and brought to Brazil to work on sugar and coffee plantations were restricted in their ability to express their own traditions and customs and they were prohibited to perform any style of sparring or martial arts. The intermingling of African tribes on the plantations and in escaped slave colonies lead to new traditions being formed and the rise of a different, Afro-Brazilian identity. Capoeira was born out of African and Brazilian cultures coming together, as well as from the need to create a form of self-defence without the actual appearance of fighting. The dancing and fluidity of movement in capoeira was designed to hide the combative movements of a martial art. Instead of a sparring fight, capoeira looks like acrobatic dancing, but hidden in the dance are a variety of martial arts moves, including punches and slaps, body throws and feints, kicks and headbutts. These martial art movements were disguised by the dance so that slaves wouldn’t be discovered or punished for training the martial art. 

Capoeira is practiced in the formation of a circle called the roda, within which two or more capoeiristas practice the martial art. There are also specific musical instruments and music that accompany capoeira including the berimbau, the pandeiro and the atabaque. The berimbau is an instrument with a single string and has its origins from Africa. This instrument dictates the speed of the capoeira within the circle. The pandeiro is a tambourine instrument that accompanies the main beat of the capoeira music that comes from the atabaque, or the drum. These simple hand-made, beautiful instruments, combined with the voices of the members of the roda, create a unique sound reminiscent of the African roots of capoeira. 

Africans who were captured and taken to Brazil as slaves, frequently tried to rebel against their captivity and capoeira was one of their most important developments. It began as a means of self defence, allowing slaves to practice fighting without looking like it. During the 1800s the abolitionist movement and the popularity of capoeira grew among blacks, and finally in 1888 the Lei Áurea was signed, ending slavery in Brazil. Though this was a pivotal moment for slaves, the blacks as well as indigenous people of Brazil were still often discriminated against and they turned to capoeira for self-defence. This was a difficult time in the country and people who practiced capoeira were often hired to take out the members of rival political parties, creating a perpetual cycle of violence that led capoeira to be banned. 

Capoeira remained taboo until 1932, when Manuel dos Reis Machado, better known as Mestre Bimba, persuaded the Brazilian authorities to allow him to open a capoeira school. Mestre Bimba was a pivotal figure in the resurgence of capoeira as a martial art form and not a means of criminal activity. He was also responsible for developing a new, more objective style of training. 

Today capoeira is practiced around the world, and it is known for creating increased body awareness as well as mental agility. Capoeiristas benefit from faster reflexes as they learn how to create graceful, impactful movements through this martial art. They maintain healthy fitness habits, and it is an activity that can be – and is – practiced by people of all ages and gender. Definitely consider trying a capoeira class on your vacations in South America. Samba music and dance lie at the very heart of Brazilian culture. It’s a dance that connects Brazilians and a rhythm they can all relate to. Take a Hike 

Whether you spend a few days in Rio or a few weeks, you should take advantage of the hills and mountains that surround the city. The trail up to this viewpoint is steep but only takes about an hour to climb and is very much worth the effort. Garota de Ipanema 

Brazilians have made countless contributions to worldwide art and culture, but few songs are as associated with Rio de Janeiro as "The Girl from Ipanema," made famous by Astrud Gilberto in 1963. Legend has it that the song was written by two patrons sitting in Garota de Ipanema, a popular snack bar located just a few blocks from the beach in a residential part of Ipanema. Even today, you might come here for the bites and beer, rather than the Bossa Nova both of which are on offer.  

Visit Sugarloaf Mountain  

The Pão do Açúcar, Sugarloaf Mountain rises high over Rio de Janeiro and is one of the city's most stunning and iconic landmarks and included on most Brazil travel itineraries. You can look down on it from the Corcovado or up at it from the Copacabana beach, this ever-present marvel on the Rio skyline is in most postcard pictures. You can take a ride on a cable car to the top of the Sugarloaf to watch the sunset. Arrive a few hours before the sun goes down so that you have time to walk around Urca, the underrated and very local neighborhood that surrounds the cable car station. 

See the sunset from the Arpoador 

Whether you're afraid of heights or simply don´t have the time to take the Sugarloaf cable car to the top of the mountain before the sun sets, there's another great place to catch the final rays of sunshine, just a few steps from both Ipanema and Copacabana beaches. Known simply as Arpoador, this rocky peninsula juts out into the sea between Rio's main beaches and offers a beautiful view over Ipanema and Leblon, with Morro dois Irmãos towering in the background. 

Visit the biggest football stadium in the world - The Maracanã 

It's no secret that Brazil is famous for its football and has been a leader in world football even before the 2014 World Cup. In fact, you can see this almost everywhere you look in Rio because it's more than just the national sport of Brazil, it's a lifestyle. People play football on Ipanema and Copacabana beaches, the people of Rio wear strips of their favorite football players and games are always playing on televisions in bars and restaurants across the city. One way to discover this on a deeper level is to take a tour of Maracanã Stadium, Rio's enormous football venue or try and catch a match when the local teams Flamengo, Fluminense, Vasco do Gama or Botafogo are playing for the most immersive and downright fun experience on your Brazil holiday adventures. 

Take a Favela Tour 

If the only idea you have of the favelas that exist through Rio is the 2002 film "City of God," then you probably have a different idea than the actuality. Although poverty and violence does exist in these places, most of the people who call them home are simply trying to build a better life for themselves and their children. One increasingly lucrative way for them to do this is to invite touristic visits to the favelas.  You should be careful when choosing a favela tour as some of these tours focus heavily on drinking and partying, which can leave you vulnerable if something should happen, however these types of favela tours don't give much or any money to the communities they visit. When in doubt, speak with the receptionist or concierge at your hotel in Rio and ask him or her to recommend a decent tour trip. 

Visit Brazil´s Museum of Contemporary Art  

Oscar Niemeyer was a visionary architect and one of the most influential figures not only in the construction of 20th century Brazil but in the world as a whole. In fact, he was responsible for many structures in Brasilia, the country's meticulously planned capital. If you want to see his work closer to Rio, you can head just over Guanabara Bay to Niterói, the site of the Niterói Contemporary Art Museum. Niemeyer designed and constructed this unique museum in 1996 to look like a UFO standing 16 meters high and 50 meters wide. Other destinations offer different, sometimes more authentic experiences than the Rio de Janeiro spectacle, making them the best celebrations in South America. 

Carnaval 

The main festivities occur during the week before Ash Wednesday, but most cities start celebrating a week or two beforehand.  The eve of Ash Wednesday, however, is always the biggest night of the whole festival and not to be missed if you plan to enjoy the party atmosphere in one of these magnificent Carnaval-crazy cities. 

Salvador 

In the state of Bahia, the Salvador Carnaval will begin with an intricate masquerade ball called Baile dos Mascarados and a unique ceremony where the mayor gives the keys of the city to the year's Carnaval King. Bahia is famous for its music and the birthplace of many genres of Brazilian music genres like axe, pagode, and samba. Carnaval celebrations in Salvador traditionally include the use of traditional Brazilian musical instruments like the berimbau musical bow and the atabque drums, emitting that distinctive Brazilian sound.

The most popular areas of Fortaleza's Carnaval are Iracema Beach and Avenue Domingos Olimpio, where you'll find the majority of dancing, music and festivities. You may be able to see participants dressed in blackface traditional dress, a tradition of the city's “Maracatu Cearense” to re-enact Afro-Brazilian figureheads. However, the use of blackface in this traditional dance has now been somewhat disallowed for racial reasons. 

Diamantina 

Diamantina is a small colonial town in the state of Minas Gerais and its carnaval takes place though the narrow streets filled with remnants of this small town's rich history. Here the party is never ending with five days of non-stop festivities. By day, the block parties get people dancing down on the cobblestones, and at night, the traditional batucada drum groups take over the streets. Tuesday's main celebration will take place in the Old Market Square of the town. 

São Paulo 

In the same vein as the Rio de Janeiro carnaval, São Paulo has a dance-off between samba schools during its Carnaval at the Anhembi Sambadrome. This is the biggest outdoor event arena in São Paulo and designed by the Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer. During carnaval, the city's top samba schools come together to compete for the grand honour of winning the Carnaval championship title. Party-goers in São Paulo can expect to encounter lots of Afro-Brazilian cultural influences and dances as part of the festivities during carnaval as well as daily parades through the city streets. 

Florianopolis 

Florianopolis is renowned for its beach culture and hosts one of the most amazing Carnaval celebrations in Brazil. As one of Brazil's more progressive cities, Florianopolis' celebrations are more welcoming to LGBT partiers, particularly on Magic Island, where there is a lively street party. In the centre of the city, you can witness samba schools parading on the Pasarelo do Samba, where locals and tourists of all ages are welcome to participate, making it one of the major holidays celebrated in South America. 

Olinda and Recife 

The cities of Olinda and Recife offer some of the most traditional and unique Carnaval experiences in Brazil. Recife has its own distinctive Carnaval emblem- the Galo da Madrugada, or Rooster of the Dawn, and millions of party-goers follow this traditional emblem from the city's historic fort to the harbour on the Saturday morning parade while dancing to “frevo”, Recife's own genre of Carnaval music. 

Recife's neighbour, Olinda, also has carnival dancers jumping along with umbrellas to frevo rhythms. In Olinda however, the five-day festival begins with a parade of giant puppets known as mamulengos and is generally a smaller and more intimate celebration than the festival in Recife. 

Manaus 

In the Brazilian Amazon, close to the Peruvian border, Manaus' remote location is perfect for one of Brazil's most unique Carnaval celebrations. The creation of the "Carnaboi" fiesta combines the celebration of Carnaval with the traditions of the Amazon´s indigenous peoples' Boi Bumba festival, for the most famous Carnaval in the Amazon region. The Manaus Carnaval maintains the customs of celebrations held in the early 20th century, the parade of traditional costumes, intertwined with indigenous costumes and traditional dances from the nearby communities. 

Rio de Janeiro

The Brigitte Bardot statue 

One of the most scenic spots in Buzios is the Orla Bardot, a seafront walk that follows the spectacular coastline and everyone’s idea of the perfect afternoon stroll. At the end of the walkway is the statue of French film star Brigitte Bardot, created by Sao Paulo-born sculptor Christina Motta. Bardot helped shine the spotlight on the Buzios when she rocked up in 1964 for a quiet vacation. 

Igreja de Sant'Ana church 

This small church is perfectly -balanced on a hill above the Praia dos Ossos beach. It dates back to the 1700s and the colonial architecture is a reminder of Portuguese settlers who made their home here. The centuries have done little to diminish its attraction and the faithful come every Saturday afternoon for mass. If mass isn´t your thing, just sitting outside, relaxing in the sun, is a great way to while away an afternoon.
