Brazil is blessed with incredible natural resources and breathtaking landscapes, such as red-rock canyons, crystal-clear rivers and seas, powdery white-sand beaches and abundant wildlife. There’s more to Brazil than the Carnaval and urban revelry, so here are some suggestions to fully enjoy outdoor adventure in Brazil.

Wildlife Watching
For safari lovers and naturalists, plan your trip around wintertime (June to September), which is the best time to go. Brazil has a wide variety of fauna and flora, such as sea turtles making a comeback and being sighted along the Brazilian coast. The Pantanal and the Amazon are must-see places for numerous bird species, monkeys, anacondas, and capybaras, as well as spotting river dolphins and toucans.

Water Activities
Kayaking, rafting, snorkeling, surfing, scuba diving and trekking along waterfalls are just some of the many ways to spend a beautiful day in sunny Brazil. The tropical islands of Brazil offer swimmers, sunbathers and water sports enthusiasts plenty of opportunities for such activities. Check out the beaches in Salvador or the magnificent Iguazu Falls.
On the excellent diving adventures is Fernando de Noronha, located off the coast of Pernambuco.

Diving in Fernando de Noronha
Brazil's best diving is on this tiny archipelago off the coast of Pernambuco. See dolphins, turtles, manta rays, and lots of underwater caves. Crowds are limited because only 420 visitors are allowed on the island simultaneously.

Swimming in the Lençóis Maranhenses
The end of the rainy season signals the best time of year to visit the dunes at Lençóis National Park. From June to October, the dunes are full of crystal-clear freshwater lagoons. A swim is the best reward for hiking through the desert of dunes.

Hiking and Trekking
It’s not all sun, sea and sand in Brazil; there are excellent mountain trails and walkways for those who like to stick to terra firma. The highlands from Salvador to the Chapada Diamantina have impressive rock structures and natural water slides. The Amazon is a top destination for walking and hiking tours, and there are plenty of wetland hiking trips in The Pantanal.

Hang Gliding in Rio
Running off the edge of a platform with nothing between you and the ground 800m (2,624 ft.) below requires a leap of faith. Still, once you do, the views of the rainforest and beaches are so enthralling that you almost forget about the ground until your toes touch the sand at São Conrado beach.

Kite Surfing in Jericoacoara
From July to November, kite-surf fans from around the world gather in the tiny village of Jericoacoara to enjoy some of the best and most reliable kite-surf conditions in Brazil, suitable for both beginners and advanced surfers. Spend the day on the water and catch the stunning sunset at the top of the 60m (200-ft.) dune overlooking the town.
