Overview & Key Highlights

Planning a trip to South America in just two weeks can feel overwhelming given the continent's vast size and diversity. To make the most of your limited time, it is highly recommended to focus your itinerary on one or two countries, allowing for a deeper cultural immersion rather than spending your vacation in transit.

Whether you are drawn to the ancient history of Peru, the vibrant urban life of Buenos Aires, or the breathtaking natural wonders of the Amazon and the Galapagos, this guide provides essential tips to help you prioritize your interests and craft the perfect 14-day adventure.

2 Week South America Itinerary

Generally, for people with only 2 weeks available to travel, it is best to concentrate on one or two countries at most. For example, you could spend the entire 2 weeks in Peru without running out of things to do. Peru is not just Machu Picchu; the capital Lima is rich in history, and the Southern coast offers amazing sights like the Ica grape growing region, Huacachina Oasis, the Ballestas Islands, The Nazca Lines, and the “White City” of Arequipa and Colca Canyon. The Northern Coast features the massive Chan Chan ruins, the fascinating Kuelap ruins, and beautiful beaches in Mancora. This doesn’t even include traditional areas such as Puno and Lake Titicaca, Machu Picchu, and the Amazon jungle.

Colombia has a Caribbean coast with golden beaches. Many travellers rave about the nature around Tayrona National Park. As for Brazil, Rio’s Copacabana may be a symbol of the country, but frankly, take your pick.

Peru’s Inca trail may be a bucket list item, but there are other options. How about a trek to Colombia’s Lost City or the Takesi Inca Trail in Bolivia?

Weather and Climate

Weather is a factor to consider carefully. Argentina, Chile, Peru, and most of the south of Brazil and Bolivia are in the southern hemisphere. South America has it all, from pristine sunny beaches to the freezing cold of Patagonia.
